Winds of Winter: ASOIAF fans overwhelmingly dreading THIS for new Game of Thrones book

Earlier this week, A Song of Ice and Fire author George RR Martin gave a long-awaited update on his writing progress. The 71-year-old clarified that he still has a long way to go and hopes to publish The Winds of Winter in 2021, despite a previous personal deadline of late next month. But now his fans have overwhelmingly revealed what they are dreading about the new Game of Thrones book release.

Upvoted almost 2000 times on the ASOIAF Reddit, user thejonsnu asked the fandom: “Does anyone else feel discouraged to read TWOW when it comes out knowing that we’ll probably just have to wait 5-10 more years for ADOS?”

They wrote: “Let me be clear: I will buy TWOW the second it comes out and read it all as soon as I can.

“But, it sucks knowing that it will only last a couple of weeks and then it’s back to waiting years for the next one.

“The bright side is at least when it comes out we’ll have more theories and things to talk about to try to fill the void.”

It’s been almost a decade since George RR Martin published his latest book in A Song of Ice and Fire.

In fact, A Dance with Dragons came out the same year that Game of Thrones premiered on HBO.

And now the TV show has finished, revealing the main plot points for Martin’s last two unpublished books in the series The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

In fact, it’s now been the same amount of time in which Martin published the first four A Song of Ice Fire books.

A Game of Thrones was published in 1996 and fourth book A Feast for Crows arrived in 2005.

Considering the nine-year gap and the fact fans already know the ending of A Song of Ice and Fire, plus taking into account all of Martin’s other commitments, A Dream of Spring could be years away.

Of course, the 71-year-old admitted in his latest blog post that The Winds of Winter is going to be very big book.

So it’s possible that A Dream of Spring is a shorter novel and could come out on a few years after Winds.

Let’s also not forget that he published the first volume of his 300 year history of the Targaryen dynasty, Fire and Blood, in 2018, which some fans felt was procrastinating from getting on with The Winds of Winter.

In terms of his writing schedule, Martin says that the novel is his priority above and beyond anything else.

After its publication, he intends on writing his fourth Dunk & Egg short story as a palate cleanser before tackling A Dream of Spring.

And after completing A Song of Ice and Fire, Martin will move on to his fifth Dunk & Egg short before writing the second volume of Fire and Blood.

Meanwhile, the first is being adapted into an HBO TV show called House of the Dragon.

The author hopes to write a few episodes of the 2022 series, but only after The Winds of Winter.

The Winds of Winter will hopefully be published in 2021.
