A’s Name on ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ Has Nothing to Do With ‘Riverdale’
WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS PRETTY LITTLE LIARS ORIGINAL SIN SPOILERS!!!
A’s real name was revealed this week on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, and it shares the name of a character on Riverdale!
If you somehow didn’t know, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is a showrunner/creator on both shows, and along with his PLLOS co-creator Lindsay Calhoon Bring, they are revealing how they picked that name for A.
See what they revealed inside…
“For months and months and months, it was Andrew Waters. When you go through the process of doing shows, you have to clear names,” Roberto told Variety. “I think it was like three days before we shot, and we got a note back that Andrew didn’t clear. So, we just were submitting a dozen ‘A’ names and none of them cleared but Archie!”
Lindsay added, “This was so not Roberto. I think we were joking around in text with our finale director, Lisa Soper, and we were like, ‘We’re having the hardest time! We have the big reveal. ‘A’ is a big thing for us, we need an A first name.’ Lisa joked, ‘Are we trying Archie? Is it going to end up being Archie?’ And I was like, ‘You know what, I’m sending it straight to the clearance department.’”
“The real of it is obviously we needed an A name to go with Angela. In a whole season of working on a show where A is a really big deal, we thought that by the end of the season, surely we’d be able to clear an A name, perhaps an Andrew, perhaps an Alan. There are so many,” Lindsay also said to TV Insider.
“It turns out Waters is such a common last name that it was a clearance nightmare to land on an amazing first name. However, I think I pitched Roberto, let’s see if Archie Waters will clear. I love it. I think it’s amazing. Roberto loved it. And it cleared. We thought, that’s it: Archie Waters and Angela Waters exist. I love it,” she said.
