Blanco Brown’s ‘The Git Up’ Tops Hot Country Songs Chart For 10th Week

Blanco Brown‘s “The Git Up” has extended its reign as No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart to a tenth week and has also achieved the feat of being the first debut hit by a soloist to stay on top for so long.

The song, produced by Brown himself, first hit top spot on the chart dated July 13, supported by a viral dance challenge on TikTok and YouTube.

“The Git Up” is the first single from Brown’s first full-length album, Honeysuckle & Lightning Bugs, which is due out on October 11.

“I grabbed spoons, tambourine, anything I could find that made a nice sound,” Brown recently told Billboard about writing the song. “When I got finished, it was so full of joy. I was doing the dance as I was writing it. I said, ‘This is going to be a song that makes people dance and brings joy.’ “

The single is the first Hot Country Songs No. 1 written, produced and performed by a single person since the chart began using the streaming, airplay and sales-based metrics to rank a song.

According to Nielsen Music, the track’s U.S. streams dropped 7% to 19 million streams and download sales declined 21% to 15,000 in the week ending September 12.

The song ruled Country Streaming Songs and Country Digital Song Sales for a 12th week each. On Country Airplay, the track advanced 48-46, logging a 12% increase in audience impressions to 1.9 million in the week ending September 15

Brown’s hit is the first Hot Country Songs No. 1 to lead for at least 10 weeks since Luke Combs‘ “Beautiful Crazy,” which spent 11 frames on top beginning on March 2.
