Ed Sheeran Boasts He’s Better Than Ross After Recreating ‘Friends’ Routine Dance With Courteney Cox
Just days after ‘Friends: The Reunion’ aired on HBO Max, the ‘Perfect’ hitmaker shares a video of him and the Monica Geller depicter doing the dance Ross did with his sister on season six.
AceShowbiz –Ed Sheeran has stunned fans by recreating Ross and Monica’s “The Routine” dance from “Friends” with Courteney Cox. The singer/songwriter teamed up with the original Monica to shoot the bizarre video, which he posted on Instagram on Sunday, May 30.
“Had a reunion of our own this weekend @courteneycoxofficial #theroutine #iknow #friends4eva #obviouslybetterthanross,” he captioned the post, alluding to the “Friends: The Reunion” special, which debuted on HBO Max last week (May 27).
The dance comes from the episode titled “The One With the Routine”, which aired during season six of the popular comedy series. In the episode aired on December 16, 1999, Ross and Monica recreated a dance routine they did in high school to get a feature on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
It’s not the first time Cox has danced with a musician in a video – she famously appeared with Bruce Springsteen in his “Dancing in the Dark” promo.
Ed and Courteney have been friends for years. Back in 2013, the “Scream” actress lent her Malibu home to the “Perfect” hitmaker when he was working on his second album. About his stay, he told The Sun, “There was no rent but I made the bed and cups of tea and things like that. If you’re staying at your friend’s house, you should treat it like your own.”
Meanwhile, director Ben Winston has spilled why the dance routine was not recreated by Courteney and co-star David Schwimmer on the special. To The Hollywood Reporter’s “TV’s Top 5 podcast”, he said, “I did say [to David and Courteney], ‘Would you ever consider doing ‘The Routine’?’ And both of them were like, ‘Oh, please don’t make us do that.’ “
“There were certain things I really cared for, like the table read or the quiz. I also couldn’t work out where it would have worked. I’m not sure it would have landed 20 years later,” Ben added. “But it was definitely on my list of ideas that I pitched.”
