Matt Willis, 38, has been one busy bee after being able to get back on stage following the end of lockdown. The former Busted singer, has been playing Dr Pomatter in hit musical Waitress, which ran at the New Wimbledon Theatre from 4 to 11 September before heading out across the country, and will end in Hull in February next year.
Unfortunately most of my job entails me being away from home
But he admitted the extensive touring began to take a toll on his family life.
Matt, who is used to touring when he was in the boy band, is married to TV presenter Emma Willis, and the pair share three children together; daughters Isabelle and Trixie-Grace, and son, Ace.
In a recent interview, he talked about how tough it was being away from them.
He said: “Touring is difficult at times, if I’m honest, as I’m going to be away from my family.
“Unfortunately most of my job entails me being away from home.
“But with this show, I do get weeks off and some time off for Christmas.”
Despite the challenges of being on the road, Matt was pleased to be back on stage after lockdown put the future of the arts at risk.
”Waitress couldn’t have come at a better time,” he told Time and Leisure magazine.
“It’s been a long time off stage for all of us really so it’s so good to be back in a rehearsal period.
“I particularly love the creative aspects. When it’s all brand new and everything’s coming together, I find it really intoxicating.”
But it’s not the first time Matt has spoken out about his concerns about being away from his family for long periods of time.

Hosts Sam Pinkham and Gaby Roslin, who were filling in for Chris while he was on holiday, quizzed Matt on how much time he’ll have to spend away from home and his loved ones during the show’s run.
Gabby asked him: “You’re going on tour?”
“Yeah,” the singer and actor replied.
“You’re going everywhere!” Gabby exclaimed.
Matt then sheepishly admitted: “Yeah, much to my family’s dismay!”
He revealed he signed up to join the cast during the third lockdown, before fully considering how long he would be away for.
The star added: “To be honest, it was third lockdown when it came through and I was like, ‘Yes sign me up! How long? Yep, sign me up’.
“And then suddenly, it’s dawning on me how long I’m going to be away for!”
