Emmerdale’s Liam Fox’s fiancée Joanna Hudson reveals she was ‘weeks away from death’ following rare autoimmune disease – as couple open up during engagement shoot – EXCLUSIVE
Liam Fox, who plays Dan Spencer on ITV soap Emmerdale, popped the question to his now fiancée Joanna Hudson in Paris, whom he met in the ’90s while studying media and performance at Salford University.
The pair lost contact before getting back in touch and falling in love in 2017.
Opening up to OK! magazine during their exclusive engagement shoot and interview, Joanna, 44, revealed that she suffered a life-threatening illness that left her weeks from death.
She said: “I was seriously ill in 2015 and nearly lost my life, which makes me appreciate what I have with Liam even more.”
Opening up on her scary health ordeal, she said: “I nearly died from a tumour; when it was discovered, I was weeks away from death.
"I realised something was wrong when I started getting double vision so I went to Specsavers who gave me glasses, but that didn’t help.

The actress continued: "I was eventually referred to a consultant and was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis [a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness].
"The consultant gave me a scan, which discovered I had a tumour caused by the illness growing on my thymus gland [near the heart], which would’ve killed me if it wasn’t discovered. I had it removed and three months later I was fully recovered!"
When asked if it caused any long-term side effects, Joanna said: “I go for regular scans to make sure it hasn’t come back, but so far I’ve been fine.

"At the time it totally consumed me, I was terrified, but now I don’t think about it much.
"After everything, I wanted to raise money for charity and that’s why I decided to host a music event called Woofstock for a rescue dog charity called Many Tears.
"Liam organised a signed Emmerdale script to auction off and invited me and Hope [their Staffordshire Bull Terrier] to the set to have pictures taken with his co-stars.
"Seeing how supportive he was really made me realise what a great guy he is."
