Jerry Lewis typo in media email blast causes mass confusion
Reporters were doing double takes on Wednesday when the subject line of a p.r. e-mail blast blared, “Jerry Lewis Returns to New York & Celebrates Pride,” saying he would perform “tomorrow on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’!”
The legendary comic died in 2017, at 91, and either way, had said of Colbert in 2015: “I don’t like him. I think he’s a snob. I think he’s elitist and a snob.”
Opening the e-mail, the typo became clear: A press release said, “Jenny Lewis returns to New York, ‘The Late Show,’ celebrates Pride.”
That seemed more plausible than a posthumous performance by the “Nutty Professor” star.
The release added that singer Lewis has booked new dates for Brooklyn and Albany in October.
