Dame Judi Dench, 86, has given fans a rare insight into her personal life, as she spoke out on her past relationships. The James Bond actress opened up on her tendency to fall in love frequently while speaking to Dame Esther Rantzen on her podcast, That’s After Life produced by Captive Minds.

Esther quizzed Judi on being a romantic, as she referenced a piece of advice she would want to give her younger self.

She said to Judi: “I have heard you say that if you could meet yourself when you were young, the one piece of advice you would give yourself is, don’t fall in love so often.”

“Yes,” the star of stage and screen replied.

“Did you fall in love all the time when you were young?” Esther asked.

“Oh yes, I’m terribly susceptible,” Dame Judi admitted in response.

Esther reassured Judi: “I think that’s a great gift, as long as you’ve got good taste, as long as you don’t fall for baddies!”

“Yes, and as long as you don’t hurt anybody in the process,” Judi told the presenter.

It comes after Judi admitted she’ll “never get over” her late husband.

The actress had previously been married to British actor Michael Williams, who tragically died from lung cancer at the age of 65 in 2001.

The pair have one child together, Tara Cressida Frances Williams, who was born in September 1972 and is an actress, who goes by the stage name of Finty Williams.

After Michael’s death, Judi shared that she thought she would never find love again.

When asked in a previous interview about how long it took for her to figure out how to be without him, she said: “I don’t know. I don’t know. Perhaps I’ve never done that, quite.”

Judi went on to speak candidly about her current partner, David Mills.

She said: “Although I have met David (Mills, the conservationist), who runs the British Wildlife Centre.”

Judi continued: “And he’s about four miles away, and that’s just lovely because we laugh about the same things.

“But I suspect I shall never, ever get over Mikey.”

Judi discussed her late spouse with actor David Tennant on his self-titled podcast last year.

Speaking about her husband’s death, she explained: “It changes who you are completely, I think.

“Because it’s like you’re walking along, and suddenly you’re not looking and there’s an enormous chasm in front of you.”

She added: “And suddenly all sorts of things take you, expected kinds of things happen.

“I don’t expect you ever get used to it. Sometimes the door in this house just opens and I think that he’s just wandered in.”
