Love Island’s Callum Macleod’s ‘reality dreams in tatters’ after he QUIT his high-flying job to join the show… only to be dumped from the villa after FIVE days

He was the first casualty of this year’s show, having been dumped from the villa after just five days.

But it appears that it’s not just Callum Macleod’s love life that has taken a hit, but his reality dreams too.

The 28-year-old Welshman quit his high-flying aircraft engineer job in order to sign up to the ITV2 dating show and make it big as a reality star.

Gone too soon: Callum Macleod’s ‘reality dreams are in tatters’ after he was the first casualty of this year’s show, having been dumped from the villa after just five days

And now it appears that Callum will have to go back to the drawing board after being booted from the Mallorcan villa after just five days.

Speaking to The Sun about leaving his top job, he said: ‘I had to hand my notice in. I’ve got my trade and my apprenticeship so I would apply elsewhere. It was a really hard decision but you only get one life.

‘I applied for a sabbatical but it got rejected in the end, on my section they couldn’t justify the career break.

Callum revealed that he left on ‘good terms’ and his managing director had told him to ‘go for it’.

He added that his ‘long-term’ plan was to ‘go back into the industry’, but it remains to be seen which step he will take next.

However, this is the second time Callum’s reality dreams have been dashed as he revealed that  he was also shunned from Celebs Go Dating.

The hunk told the publication that he appeared on the last series of the E4 dating show, but failed to bag a date with any of the female celebrities.

He explained: ‘I went on Celebs – but I didn’t date anyone.

‘I want to the mixer but didn’t get picked. Georgia from Love Island was there, Kerry Katona, it was the most recent one. I was only on actual TV for a second.’

But saying that, Callum has remained optimistic about finding love and admitted that although he was ‘gutted’ to leave Love Island, he go back into the villa ‘straightaway’.

Friday night’s dramatic re-coupling saw Callum given his marching orders after his partner Amber Gill decided to switch things up and pair up with Anton Danyluk instead.

Following his departure from the villa, Callum said he was disappointed he failed to find his future wife on the show, but went onto tip Curtis and Amy as the couple who would go the distance.

He said: ‘I don’t think I would do anything differently in person. I genuinely think I was true to myself. I didn’t fake anything. It’s just unfortunate that there was no one in there that I connected with.

‘There were definitely people in there that I was closer to and maybe if the opportunity had come to speak to those people more it might have been a little bit different.

‘But ultimately I’m 28, I’ve had a couple of serious relationships, I know what I’m looking for and it just didn’t come through the door on this occasion.’

Reflecting on an explosive re-coupling, Callum added: ‘We all knew there would be a couple of surprising choices because we didn’t have a clue who would pick who. It could have gone either way.

Oh dear! This is the second time Callum’s reality dreams have been dashed as he revealed that he was also shunned from Celebs Go Dating

‘I definitely saw it coming. Apart from Curtis, anyone of us could have gone.

‘We weren’t sure what the girls were thinking, I didn’t know what was being said, but like I keep saying, I didn’t want to force it and fake it because I didn’t think it was the correct manner to do so.’

And as viewers said goodbye to their first Islander of the series, the stage was set for a hunky new arrival in the form of Danny, 21, a model from Hull.

The model described himself as a ‘happy go lucky kind of guy,’ who was determined to find a girl who was ‘ambitious and independent.’

Love Island continues on Sunday 9th June at 9pm on ITV2.
