Monty Don upsets Gardeners’ World fans with ‘last shoot’ news after ‘horrible’ conditions

Monty Don, 66, left Gardeners’ World fans devastated after revealing he will be working on his “last shoot” for the BBC series next week. In a Twitter post, the horticulturalist informed his 240,000 followers that after next week’s filming session, “that is it for this season”.
Monty went on to detail some unfortunate filming conditions he has experienced towards the end of this year’s series.
The star explained he and his team had endured “horrible wet weather” while working in Hergest Croft Gardens.
Monty began by telling fans: “Very good couple of days filming in the garden.
“Last shoot next week and then that is it for this season.”
It wasn’t long before Monty was inundated with comments from Gardeners’ World fans, who shared their sadness over the series coming to an end.
Twitter user Sweetgentlesoul penned: “Monty, I will be sad when the show ends for the winter,am already counting the days to spring. You take care then and let me be the first to wish a happy Halloween with your pumpkins and a Happy Holly Christmas.”
SBSDiva added: “I hate it when GW comes to an end. I know you need a break but you are definitely my calming hour.”
binthemaster suggested: “I wonder if you and/or @GWandShows would consider doing a midwinter special?
“To cover all the winter gardening jobs (like checking bulbs in storage etc), and to show off some winter gardens? Daphnes, Cornus, etc.
“Tide us over until spring! It would be very welcome!”

“Gardening is all about hope; that something will grow that, there is a future to look towards. So enjoy your break and please come back next Spring.”
lolimac01 responded: “Flipping heck that makes my heart sink but thankfully the winters don’t seem that long these days.Before we know it Spring will be upon us and off we go again.”
Monty then returned to Twitter to respond to a post from Hergest Croft Gardens’ official page after filming there recently.
They penned: “It’s not only our Plant Fair on Sunday, but we are going to be on Gardeners’ World this Friday!
“Sadly it was the most horrible wet weather when @GWandShows and @TheMontyDon came to see our wonderful trees … don’t miss the programme. #trees #Arboretum.”
The account also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Monty filming the episode.
Acknowledging that the weather caused issues, Monty wrote back: “Horrible wet weather but wonderful garden and wonderful day.
“Hopefully it will be a wonderful programme.”
