Olly Murs says owning dog has prepared him and girlfriend Amelia for parenthood

Olly Murs has opened up how life has changed since he and his girlfriend Amelia Tank got their pet dog Missy over a year ago.

The 37 year old singer, who was recently praised for halting a gig after noticing a 14 year old fan having a seizure, said the experience has prepared them for the day they have children together during an exclusive chat with OK! Online about Peperami's 'Ban the Bland' campaign.

"It's made me find my inner father, the inner dad in me that I never knew existed because I never really though about children or anything like that," Olly said.

The Voice judge went on to explain that he and Amelia, 27, have found their "roles" in their parenting dynamic as the bodybuilder is the more caring one whereas Olly is strict.

He told OK!: "It's just learning to be a dad in a way. Me and Amelia are having to learn how to be dog parents. Also, in a really cool way we've kind of found our roles on who does what.

"Like Amelia is the kind and the caring – she's bossy with the dog but she also kind of lets it do what it wants. She feeds it and take it for walks.

"I'm the more dominant one, so I'm the one who will tell her off if she's done something wrong and make sure that I play games with her, too. So we've figured out our roles as dog parents."

When asked if Missy has prepared them to have children of their own one day, he replied: "Yes, it definitely has. People will obviously go, 'But a dog is not a human…' I know. I get it. But it definitely has prepared me for the responsibility.

"Every time we think about going out to dinner or going out with our friends, we have to think, 'Right, we've got a dog now so it's slightly different'.

"I know having a baby will be completely different, but it's still similar in certain ways. So me and Amelia are definitely prepared for that next step in our lives, when that is I don't know, but we're just so happy with our little dog. She's amazing."

"To have a dog like Missy and to have Amelia in the house, it's made the house a home," he added.

Olly, who recently suffered an injury after a fan threw suncream at his face, is promoting Peperami's 'Ban the Bland' campaign and even took part in a clip to test the nation's biggest food fails.

Speaking on his involvement, he told OK!: "In my childhood, Peperami stands out for me as a snack that my dad always ate.

"The amount of times my dad used to shout, 'Who has had my Peperami?!' and obviously there was three of us, so we had to own up to which person had the Peperami."

Olly Murs has been challenged by Peperami to take on the nation’s food fails and trial Britain’s saddest snacks. To watch the full episode, visit @PeperamiTV on Instagram.
