Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse, 30, tied the knot with her husband and fellow dancer Marius Iepure, 38, in 2014. They met in Germany during a dance trial and went on to compete in a number of competitions together.

The dancer discussed growing up in Africa and moving to different countries to pursue her dream career, in a chat with ex Strictly pro Joanne Clifton and Tjasa Vulic.

Oti asked the podcast hosts about finding their way in a relationship with someone of a different culture and went on to share her own thoughts.

She said on the She’s Just A Dancer podcast: “I’m African and my husband is from east Europe so we already come with a bit of sass.

“He’s like, ‘I’m an eastern European warrior’ so there was a lot of let us learn our places for a minute here, hang on a minute.’

“I’m not that girl.”

Last year, Oti told fans she had to have a “difficult discussion” about racism with her husband, following the death of George Floyd.

In light of the news, the dancer said her heart was broken as part of a lengthy Instagram post about the Black Lives Matter movement.

She wrote: “Today my heart broke. So much more learning should be done.

“So many people hurt. @MariusIepure and I had to have a deep discussion today because one day we hope we will never have to have these conversations.

“We deeply hope not but for that to happen we need to bring this to light now! In South Africa 1990 was a big year for us and we are still working towards it.

“May 2020 begin that journey for America (and around the world). But something must change!!”

Oti joined Strictly Come Dancing a year after tying the knot with Marius.

During her time on the show so far, she has lifted the Glitterball trophy twice with dance partners Kelvin Fletcher and most recently Bill Bailey.

The dancer had previously said her spouse warned off her dance partners about any romance.

During the couple’s appearance on Your Face or Mine, host Jimmy Carr joked about the Strictly Come Dancing curse – a term used to to refer to a breakdown in the relationship of a participating celebrity or professional dancer during, or soon after the show.

She quipped: “My husband makes sure each and every one of my partners have a warning, so they kind of stay away.”

“They understand very fast,” he added.

Addressing a sexy Rumba routine she did with Kelvin in the 2019 series, she said of her husband’s reaction: “Because he’s a dancer, he fully understands what a Rumba is.

“He told me that you have to make it look like a Rumba otherwise you’re just two friends on the floor and what’s the point?”

Oti’s sister Motsi, who joined the show as a judge in 2019, expressed her shock at the pair’s routine on the live show.

She jokingly said at the time: “Hold on Kelvin that’s my sister, stop it.”
