Our Yorkshire Farm viewers would have thought Amanda Owen, 46, has her work cut out with nine kids to raise, mouths to feed and 1,000 sheep to look after on a 2,000 acre farm, it seems the shepherdess doesn’t get a second to herself. But the former model has her eyes set on something else, as she insists she’ll never let anyone tell her what she can and can’t do. In a new interview, Amanda discussed growing her already sparse family by one more, as she pondered whether bringing a tenth child to the chaos would be a good idea.

I think I’m too old to have a tenth child. I don’t know, wait and see

“I think I’m too old to have a tenth child,” she beamed: “I don’t know, wait and see!

“There was never any family planning, so who knows? Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do.

“People are quick to say to a mum of nine, ‘You can’t do this, you can’t do that’.

“But I want to be an example to my kids, to say, ‘You can be whatever you want to be — don’t let other people define you.'”

She admitted that for some “motherhood is always the way”.

But in her case – nine times over – it wasn’t like that.

“For me, that wasn’t the case at all,” she explained.

“Obviously it was something I wanted, to have a family. But I didn’t really know what to expect.”

Amanda went on: “I hadn’t had many dealings with babies, so it was really a question of problem solving, as with most things in life.

“I wasn’t going to be able to do farming with a Bugaboo, was I? So it was a question of ‘get the papoose (child carrier) and then off we go’.”

And it looks like she found her calling alongside being a shepherdess, revealing the feeling of being a mother while running a farm left her feeling “really healthy” as it was an “uplifting way to do things”.

But despite what looks like a hectic lifestyle, the 46-year-old TV star also admitted she still likes going out and dressing up.

That may come as a surprise to some Channel 5 viewers, who know the family farm – Ravenseat Farm, which is situated in the north Yorkshire Dales – is one of the most rural and secluded in England.

Amanda, who recently threw on a bikini to herd her cows over the meadows, revealed she enjoys throwing on a skimpy dress with some stilettos and painting her nails – even if it’s just to muck out the animals.

She laughed: “People ask me, ‘Oh my God, you paint your nails? How do you have time?’

“Nail polish can dry in about five minutes. I paint them as I get in the car and then stick the blowers on and drive to wherever I’m going.”

She explained that it’s a, perhaps advanced, form of multi-tasking, which keeps her “insanely busy”.

“But who isn’t?” she quizzed The Sun: “Everyone’s got stuff going on.

“Yes, my life’s chaotic, there’s not so much in the way of planning. Obviously certain things have to happen — the kids go to school, packed lunches, baths, showers, hair washing all the rest of it.

“In and among and in between that, it doesn’t matter — as long as the kids are happy, fed, clean and all right. For us, that’s what keeps it interesting.”
