Katie McGlynn has reportedly left in "severe pain" after slicing her foot open by kicking the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball trophy.

The former Coronation Street star, 28, is said to have been asked to kick the trophy for a promotional video for the upcoming series of the BBC One show.

It's understood Katie thought the trophy wasn't the real deal, but a plastic version of the trophy and took a run up to kick it.

Katie is said to have been "unaware" directors only wanted her to pretend to kick the disco ball-shaped award and she was left in pain.

Actress Katie, who is said to have been "warned against her partying ways", is understood to have had her foot exposed as she was wearing strappy high heels for the occasion before allegedly smashing the heavy-duty glass Glitterball trophy.

After the incident, Katie was reportedly tended to by medics at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire on Friday.

A source claimed to The Sun: “She was absolutely raging because nobody told her that it was a genuine glass Glitterball.

"Her feet were properly exposed in high heels and she was dolled up to the nines for filming.

“After giving it a brief run-up, she pelted the ball and was left in severe pain.

“There was glass everywhere and everyone was left in shock at what happened.

“She blames the staff on set because nobody told her what it was made of — or that she should only pretend to kick it.”

The source added: “The promo shoot was promptly cut short while Katie’s foot was cleaned up.”

But, a source insisted to OK! that Katie was not angry after the incident as she was "completely fine".

OK! has contacted Katie's representatives for comment.

Strictly were reportedly originally keen to pair Katie with Giovanni Pernice, who is dating Love Island star Maura Higgins.

But, bosses are said to have made a U-turn over fears it would "stoke flames". Katie previously denied being romantically involved with dancer Giovanni after the pair were spotted at an awards ceremony in 2017.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: "There’s always speculation about the pairings and how they will impact on relationships. The bosses do not want to stoke flames."
