Tom Fletcher ‘overwhelmed’ as he performs with McFly for first time after Strictly exit

Tom Fletcher took no time to rest after exiting Strictly Come Dancing this weekend as he performed with his band McFly hours later.

The 36 year old was voted off from the BBC dancing competition after failing to win over the judges during his dance off against CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson after Musicals week.

Despite the blow, it was back to business as Tom performed with McFly at London’s O2 arena to the sights of his now ex dance partner, Amy Dowden, who attended the show.

“If you voted for us, it means so much to us,” Tom spoke backstage to his 2million followers on Instagram Stories after the results show aired Sunday night, while Amy stood by his side.

“I’ve had the best time, it’s been fun. I’m gutted it’s over but I have a McFly show now.”

The former contestant appeared happy to be back with his band after a gruelling few weeks training on Strictly, as he posted a series of photos on Instagram of himself and the rest of McFly performing to a packed crowd.

Aside from his enthusiasm returning onstage with the boys, it was clear though that Tom missed being on the dancing show already.

“I had a lot going on in my head last night as we walked to the stage for our final @mcflymusic show of 2021,” he captioned.

“Mainly just feeling a bit overwhelmed that I get to casually drift from the dance floor of the best show on TV to the stage of the O2 arena and that’s what I call a 'job'.

“I’m so bloody lucky and so grateful to everyone who came to the tour and to last night. If anything was ever going to help take my mind off having to leave @bbcstrictly, it’s being on stage with these guys.

“McFLY is the best medicine. Ok, Calpol is the best medicine but McFLY is close second.”

In a second video clip uploaded to Instagram Stories by Tom before he hit the stage, he described as he walked down the arena halls how he has found the last few hours since leaving Strictly.

“It’s still pretty fresh, but I just want to say thank you very much. It was an amazing way to go out on Musicals Week I’ve had the best time. Amy’s been amazing,” he said.

“I just wanted to say I’ve loved every second of being on the show and Amy’s made it so incredibly special.

“The time has come to hang up my dance shoes – or my foot thongs – as I wore last night and put my guitar back on and back to doing what I do. Back on stage with the guys.”
