Victoria Beckham says wanting to be ‘really thin’ is ‘old fashioned’

Victoria Beckham has said that wanting to be “really thin” is an old-fashioned attitude in 2022.

The style icon, who has spilled on son Brooklyn’s wedding day, is launching a new collection, VB Body which is inspired by the women she has seen in Miami, where the Beckhams spend a fair bit of time.

The “permanent capsule” collection has been labelled affordable and sexy, and perfect alongside her ready-to-wear collections.

Speaking to Grazia, she revealed what had inspired her to create the collection, which ranges from sizes 6 to 18: “There are a lot of curvy women in Miami, and they really own it, you know?

“They walk along Miami beach with not a lot of clothes on, and they look fantastic. They show their bodies off with such confidence. I found both their attitude and style really liberating.

“And as a mother, I loved the fact that Harper was around women who were really celebrating their curves and enjoying how they look.”

She added: “It’s an old-fashioned attitude, wanting to be really thin. I think women today want to look healthy, and curvy.

“They want to have some boobs – and a bum. The curvier you are, the better my VB Body dresses look.”

Victoria also explained she wanted her designs to be more size-inclusive and affordable in her new clothing line.

“I want this to be inclusive of body shape, of skin colour – and of budget,” she said.

“This isn’t just about me. For quite a few years, the more time I spent working in fashion, the more clothes I wore and I ended up buried under all these 'fashion' layers.

“So last year when I was in Miami and starting to go out again, post-Covid, I wanted a change. I wanted to feel sexy again.”

She added: “And yes, David is a big fan of the new look. Much as I do dress for myself, I also love the fact that he loves me in these dresses. Men love to see a bit of shape.”

Victoria’s line is embracing more form-fitting, bodycon silhouettes.

Shea added: “Every woman wants a nice, round, curvy bottom, right? For that, you need a really tight knit nip you in at the waist and holds you in all the right places.

“You need full fashioned details, considered and perfectly placed to create a really flattering silhouette.”

Victoria has been a powerhouse in the fashion world for a long time now, and even dressed guests and family members at Brooklyn’s £3million wedding to Nicola Peltz in April.

She designed her own sleek, stylish satin-finish gown for the wedding, as well as dressing Eva Longoria, Zanna Roberts Rassi, and even her son Romeo’s girlfriend, Mia Regan.
