William talks about ‘togetherness’ hours after latest Harry and Meghan bombshells
Prince William opened up about the importance of “togetherness at Christmas” just hours after his brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle dropped a series of bombshells about the royal life in the latest episodes of their Netflix docuseries.
Appearing at a festive carol service at Westminster Abbey, William read a passage from the late Queen’s 2012 Christmas Day message and paid tribute to his grandmother.
In the address, her late Majesty said she was “always struck by the spirit of togetherness" during the festive season and that it was a time "when we remember that God sent his only son 'to serve, not to be served'".
The Prince of Wales attended the event with his wife Kate, the Princess of Wales, and their children Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, seven.
It was Kate's second Together At Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey, which is where she and William tied the knot in 2011.
The 40 year old wrapped up against the cold in a maroon coat and was matching with her daughter.
King Charles and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, were also in attendance.
The royals all appeared to be putting on a brave face after the day started with Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, making a number of serious accusations against the royal family in the final volume of their docu-series on Netflix.
This included Harry claiming his brother “screamed” at him during a meeting about his and Meghan’s desire to take a step back from royal duties, as well as him saying his father, the now King Charles, said things that were untrue.
Speaking in the explosive Netflix documentary, the Duke of Sussex said: “It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that just simply weren't true, and my grandmother, you know, quietly sit there, and sort of take it all in."
The meeting on what was later dubbed "Megxit" took place at Sandringham in January 2020 and Meghan was not invited.
"It was clear they planned it so you weren't in the room," Harry tells Meghan in the series. "I was not invited to have a seat at the table," she adds to the camera.
Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping back as senior working royals in January 2020.
The royal goes on to explain his grandmother's perspective, saying: "But you have to understand that, from the family's perspective, especially from hers, there are ways of doing things, and her ultimate sort of mission, goal, slash responsibility is the institution.
"People around her are telling her, by the way, that proposal, or these two doing X, Y, Z, is going to be seen as an attack on the institution. Then she's gonna go on the advice that she's given. It was really hard."
He continued: "That meeting finished without any, like, solidified action plan."
