Wretch 32 attends Black Lives Matter march with 62-year-old dad who was Tasered
Wretch 32 was seen addressing the crowds at a Black Lives Matter march as he protested against the use of Tasers alongside his father.
The rapper, 35, and his dad, Millard Scott, 62, joined the protest outside Tottenham police station despite the swelterinbg heatwave in London.
Wretch, real name Jermaine Scott, had shared a video in June of his dad falling down the stairs after being Tasered by police who entered his home.
He told the crowd at Saturday’s march: ‘I am saddened that we have to be standing here today.
‘I feel that as a community, as a people, that we are over-policed and under-protected. We don’t feel protected. My dad did not feel protected.
‘The police are supposed to protect and serve. When they came into the house, what exactly were they serving with that Taser?
‘My dad stands here today. In my eyes he is lucky to be alive.’
After the incident in June, the MET Police said in a statement: ‘A 22-year-old man located inside the address was arrested and later charged with encouraging another to commit an offence under the Serious Crime Act 2007.
‘A 52-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of obstructing/resisting a police constable in the execution of duties but was de-arrested at the scene.
‘She was subsequently charged with the offence after being interviewed by police under caution at a later date.
‘As officers entered the premises, a man came downstairs and started moving towards an officer suddenly.
‘He was ordered to remain where he was but continued towards officers who, after several warnings, deployed a Taser.’
They added: ‘The incident, including body worn footage, has been reviewed by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and no indication of misconduct has been identified.’
