Here's How Liam Hemsworth Has Been Healing From His Split With Miley Cyrus
For the past month, news of the breakup between Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth has dominated the news cycle. From rumors of Cyrus cheating to Hemsworth filing official divorce proceedings, there’s a lot to take in. But while the focus has been on the pop star and her new music, let’s check in on how the Australian actor is doing.
Cyrus and Hemsworth called it quits in 2019
You’re probably familiar with the story, but here it is in case you’ve forgotten: Cyrus and Hemsworth met on the set of their 2010 film The Last Song. Though the film wasn’t well-received, their real-life relationship continued on and off for years.
In late 2018, after their Malibu home burned to the ground, Cyrus and Hemsworth decided to tie the knot. However, just months later, in August 2019, news of their split began to circulate after Cyrus was spotted on vacation not wearing her wedding ring.
Hemsworth made his only public comment on Instagram

Hi all Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.
After their breakup was confirmed, Hemsworth, who keeps his social media posting to a minimum, gave his own official statement. However, he refused to speak to the press, keeping his message short and sweet.
Hemsworth wrote that he wishes Cyrus “nothing but health and happiness going forward.” He also called their split “a private matter,” adding that he won’t be speaking to the media about it. Hemsworth closed with “Peace and Love.” He officially filed for divorce on Aug. 21, 2019.
Cyrus has been focusing on new music since the split
While Hemsworth was keeping quiet, Cyrus was dealing with things in her own way. She recorded a new track, “Slide Away,” which appears to reference their relationship in various different ways, including mentions of how their home “turned to dust” in the fire.
Cyrus performed “Slide Away” at the MTV VMAs and starred in a music video for the song. She also has another new track, “Don’t Call Me Angel,” coming out, which she sings with Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey.
Hemsworth has been spending time with his big brother, Chris
As Cyrus channels her heartbreak into music and continues to keep up with maintaining her career via her social media, Hemsworth has found solace in the comfort of family and friends. His older brother, actor Chris Hemsworth, recently shared the above photos from Makepeace Island in Australia, in which the younger Hemsworth appears.
From the images, it looks as though Hemsworth has been playing seventh wheel to a host of couples, including Chris and his wife, Elsa Pataky. They all appear to be having a wonderful time relaxing at the resort, though it’s hard not to wonder if Cyrus was supposed to be there, or if this was booked after the breakup.
What is Hemsworth working on?

Excited to announce a movie I worked on called Killerman will be released in the USA on August 30th. I’m incredibly proud of the work everyone did on it. It was an absolute honor to work with my friend Emory Cohen again, one of my favorite actors, Malik Bader, an extremely creative and intelligent director, and the brilliant Ken Seng for his work as Director of Photography. Blood, sweat and tears were shed from all who were involved. Independent film making is always a tough thing to pull off and I just want to thank all the hard-working people who helped make it happen. @killermanofficial
As an actor, Hemsworth may have weeks or months here and there of downtime. But like most, he may be looking to throw himself into his work, especially post-breakup. Which is good news for those of us who miss seeing him on the big screen.
Hemsworth skipped out on promotion for his new flick, Killerman, which was released on Aug. 30, 2019. He has also finished filming Arkansas, a crime-thriller in which he stars opposite Vince Vaughn and John Malkovich. Let’s hope there’s plenty more to come in the future.
