Would you believe it but Indiana Jones has been portrayed on screen by more actors than James Bond? While six stars have officially played 007, seven actors have had a go at the archaeologist adventurer on Film and TV. Harrison Ford obviously stands above the rest, with five others featuring in the Young Indiana Jones series and one in the opening scene of The Last Crusade movie.

The first couple were Neil Boulane and Boutalat, who played Indy as a baby and toddler in the first Young Indiana Jones movie, My First Adventure.

While more prominently was child actor Corey Carrier portraying Indy from the ages of 8-10.

He featured in eight Young Indy episodes, had grown up watching the original trilogy of movies and was nervous to meet George Lucas.

He said of creating his own take on the character: “I try to make Indy curious, very curious, but not so far as to be a brat; just a little mischievous. He’s a normal kid.”

Next up is the late River Phoenix who played Indy in 1912 aged 13, in the epic opening sequence of the third movie, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

The young actor had previously played Ford’s son in 1986’s The Mosquito Coast, so his casting made sense.

This scene famously ended with Indy being given his iconic fedora hat by a grave robber who had outwitted him.

Indy was then portrayed from ages 16-21 by Sean Patrick Flanery, the main version of the character in the Young Indiana Jones show who starred across a number of adventures in the form of episodes and TV movies.

Then, of course, is Ford himself who has played Indiana Jones across four movies with a fifth on the way.

He’s played Indy in the periods 1935-38, 1957 and presumably the late 1960s for Indiana Jones 5.

The Hollywood legend even cameoed in Young Indy adventure Mystery of the Blues in scenes set in 1950.

Last, and certainly not least, is George Hall’s Old Indy aged 93-94, who had a scar and eyepatch for an unknown reason.

Hall would bookend episodes of the Young Indy show as Old Indy living in the early 1990s and thinking back on his life.

Sadly his scenes were cut from the re-released and edited film versions of Young Indy.

Interestingly, Lucasfilm sources have recently told We Got This Covered that the studio is allegedly considering rebooting the Young Indy series in some way.

After all, Indiana Jones 5 releases next summer and will presumably reignite interest in the franchise.

Considering there’s an unexplored on-screen gap between 1920-1935 in Indy’s life, perhaps an eighth actor could cover that period.

While set photos from Indiana Jones 5 have seen scenes set in the Second World War.

Although Ford has been spotted with dots on his face so will be digitally de-aged for flashback scenes.

Indiana Jones 5 hits cinemas on July 29, 2022.
