Back in 2002, Pierce Brosnan ended his tenure as James Bond with an invisible car in the rather silly Die Another Day. But then just four years later Daniel Craig was introduced as a back to basics Bond in his gritty debut, Casino Royale. Now as the 52-year-old prepares to bow out in No Time To Die next year, speculation is rife over his replacement and how the 007 franchise will reboot this time around.
Despite unconfirmed rumours of Tom Hardy’s alleged casting as the next Bond, 007 producer Barbara Broccoli says they’re not thinking about a reboot until No Time To Die is out the way.
Speaking with Total Film, the 60-year-old said: “I always say: you can only be in love with one person at a time.
“Once the film’s come out, then some time will pass, and then we’ll have to get on to the business of the future.
“But for now, we just cannot think about anything beyond Daniel.”
Teasing the next James Bond, Broccoli said: “It will have to be reimagined, in the way each actor has reimagined the role.
“That’s what is so exciting and fun about this franchise; the character evolves.
“Eventually, when we have to think about it, we’ll find the right person.”
The 007 producer also confirmed that the next Bond will definitely be a man, but can be of any ethnicity.
Broccoli added: “He doesn’t need to be a white man. Not as far as I’m concerned.
“We should create roles for women, not just turn a man into a woman.”
Earlier this week, bookmakers Ladbrokes said there is a “clear three-horse race” between Tom Hardy, James Norton and Henry Cavill.
The Mad Max star is on EVENS, while McMafia’s Norton is just behind on 5-2.

While Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill comes in third on 6-1.
A spokesperson for the bookmakers said: “Daniel Craig’s 007 shoes are big ones to fill and punters are seemingly convinced Bond chiefs have now whittled his replacement down to three blockbuster names.”
No Time To Die was originally set to release on November 12 this year in the UK.
However, the movie has been postponed for a fourth time to April 2, 2021.
The new Bond movie was first supposed to hit cinemas in October 2019 before Danny Boyle left the project over “creative differences”.
After Cary Fukunaga took over as director, No Time To Die moved to February 14 this year and then to April, November and now April 2021.
Fingers crossed the pandemic doesn’t see the blockbuster move again to November next year.
No Time To Die is set for release in UK cinemas on April 2, 2021.
