Big Hit Music Cancels BTS' Map of the Soul Tour
Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS were originally supposed to embark on their Map of the Soul Tour in 2020 following the release of their album Map of the Soul: 7. Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the tour was indefinitely postponed. On Aug. 19, Big Hit Music published a Weverse post and announced that BTS’ Map of the Soul Tour is officially canceled.
BTS’ Map of the Soul Tour is canceled
The Map of the Soul Tour was originally set to begin in April 2020 in Seoul, South Korea. When the coronavirus began to spread, Big Hit Music canceled the opening tour dates in Seoul and postponed the remainder of the tour in North America, Japan, and Europe.
On Aug. 19, BTS’ official Twitter account with Big Hit Music published a link to a Weverse post.
In the post, Big Hit Music let ARMY know the tour will not take place, writing:
This is BIGHIT MUSIC.
We would like to provide some information regarding ‘BTS MAP OF THE SOUL TOUR’.
Our company has worked hard to resume preparations for the BTS MAP OF THE SOUL TOUR, knowing that all fans have been waiting eagerly and long for the tour. However, due to changing circumstances beyond our control, it has become difficult to resume performances at the same scale and timeline as previously planned. Therefore we must announce the cancellation of the BTS MAP OF THE SOUL TOUR.”
BTS fans will be refunded for their tickets
Before the tour was postponed, fans in North America were able to purchase tickets for the 16 tour dates in the U.S. and Canada. Meanwhile, ARMY in Europe and Japan were not able to buy tickets.
“The tour’s concerts in Seoul were previously canceled in February of last year, followed by the postponement of the North American leg in March; dates in Europe and Japan were postponed prior to the start of ticket sales in those regions,” Big Hit Music wrote on Weverse.
For fans in North America who chose to hold onto their tickets, refunds will be provided.
“We regret that we must now inform you of the formal cancellation of the tour. For fans who have reserved tickets for the North American shows, you will receive an email from your original point of purchase regarding refunds,” the Weverse statement reads.
BTS will have upcoming performances
To complete the Map of the Soul era, BTS held a two-day online concert event called Map of the Soul ON:E in October 2020. In the Weverse post, Big Hit Music promised fans that BTS will have performances at some point in the future.
“Once again, please allow us to offer our sincere apology to all fans who have waited for the BTS MAP OF THE SOUL TOUR to resume. We are working to prepare a viable schedule and performance format that can meet your expectations, and we will provide updated notices as soon as possible,” Big Hit Music wrote.
As of right now, it is unclear if BTS will announce a new modified tour to coincide with a new era or if the band will put on more virtual concerts.
