BTS Won Every Award They Were Nominated for at the 2020 MTV VMAs
The members of BTS are truly unstoppable. On Aug. 30, BTS made their MTV Video Music Awards debut and performed their new single “Dynamite.” The Korean band also won every award they were nominated for that night and took home trophies for Best K-pop, Best Group, Best Choreography, and Best Pop.
BTS performed ‘Dynamite’ for the first time at the MTV VMAs
The K-pop group’s performance of “Dynamite” marked their first performance of the song and their first-ever performance at the MTV VMAs. They filmed the performance in Seoul, and based on the awards show’s promotion of “Dynamite,” it was easily the most-anticipated performance of the night.
Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook began the number against a green screen that displayed famous sites of New York City. BTS’s crystal-clear live vocals were prominent throughout the English-language song. Decked out in suits and vests, they moved through the fun and dynamic choreography, and toward the end of the song the green screen transformed to show a firework display over Seoul.

By performing at the 2020 MTV VMAs, BTS became the first Korean act to perform at all four major music award shows in the U.S. Now, the band has performed at the America Music Awards, the Grammy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, and the MTV VMAs.
BTS won multiple awards at the MTV VMAs
BTS’s four nominations honored the group and the music video for “ON,” the lead single from their 2020 album Map of the Soul: 7. Before the awards show even began, BTS already made history as the first Asian act to ever be nominated for Best Pop at the MTV VMAs.
After their performance of “Dynamite,” BTS was crowned the winner of the Best Pop category at the MTV VMAs. To win this category, BTS beat out Halsey, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber and Quavo, and Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. BTS also took home the awards for Best Choreography, Best K-pop, and Best Group.
With BTS’s record-breaking wins, it makes one wonder what would have happened if the band had been nominated in other major categories. Based on their already-broken records, VMAs wins, “Dynamite” performance, and the hype surrounding the group, it is clear they deserved to be competing against mainstream artists in the major categories.

To set this record, the “Dynamite” music video achieved 101.1 million views within 24 hours.
The group thanked ARMY for their support
