Jess Glynne ‘cancels Isle of Wight festival’ minutes before performance
Jess Glynne pulled out of her Isle of Wight performance last-minute on Sunday due to ‘exhaustion’ leaving thousands of fans disappointed.
The Hold My Hand singer was due to perform at the Seaclose Park music event on Sunday evening but festival organiser John Giddings appeared on-stage to deliver the unexpected news of Jess’ cancellation to the throngs of fans.
It came just hours after Jess, 29, performed at the Spice Girls’ final Wembley Stadium show on Saturday night after supporting the girl band on their reunion UK tour dates.
Isle of Wight confirmed the news by tweeting: ‘Unfortunately Jess Glynne was unable to perform today due to exhaustion.’
A rep for Jess told Metro.co.uk: ‘Jess had every intention of performing today at isle of wight.
‘However as the show got closer it became apparent that she was physically exhausted after a very intense last few weeks of touring.
‘As a result we took the decision to the cancel the show. Jess is extremely frustrated and apologises to all her fans but ultimately her health must come first.’
Fans were devastated and criticised Jess for not informing them sooner that she wasn’t able to perform.
A particularly disgruntled fan commented: ‘Can’t believe ur not performing at the Isle of Wight festival why not tell people the morning of the day ur meant to be performing “ur ill” yh right. You’ve done this before can’t believe this. Let us down again wth? [sic].’
Another claimed to have waited for 45 minutes, tweeting: ‘Hey babe @JessGlynne are u actually going to preform at IOW ? After 45 mins of waiting. Your the reason we come here. If not we are going to get a steak so let us know xxxxxxx.’
One festival-goer said: ‘Jess Glynne cancelled at IoW fest 10 minutes after she was supposed to come on. Kids are crying. Jodie is crying. Absolute scenes.’
The Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself singer has cancelled several concerts this year.
In May, Jess pulled out of her BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend performance just hours before she was due on-stage, while she cancelled her Brits Week show back in February after doctors’ orders for ‘vocal rest’.
With Jess now out of the line-up, Richard Ashcroft and headliners Biffy Clyro have adjusted their set times.
Metro.co.uk have contacted Jess Glynne’s reps for comment.
