Revealed: Was Taylor Swift Really Bullied By Scooter Braun?

Taylor Swift made waves yesterday when she posted a message to her Tumblr calling out 38-year-old manager, Scooter Braun, for purchasing the masters of her previous records by way of acquiring Big Machine Records. In the post, Swift spoke about how devastated she was about this recent development because now her previous six albums would be owned by Braun, who Swift claims has gone out of his way to incessantly manipulate and bully her for years. But did Braun really bully the 29-year-old songstress?

In her Tumblr post, Swift made several references to instances where she felt Braun had bullied her. The biggest of which was in the midst of her feud with rapper Kanye West. Swift was outraged when the rapper released his song “Famous” where West declared that there was still a chance that he and Swift might hookup because he made her famous. (This, of course, refers to when West interrupted Swift’s speech at the VMA’s when she won video of the year to declare that Beyonce’s video was better.) Following the song’s release, Swift immediately took to social media to express how upset the lyrics made her.

However, West had a different story to tell. He claimed that he asked Swift’s permission before he put her in the song. His wife, Kim Kardashian, then chimed in, backing up her husband’s claims and stating she had video evidence of the phone conversation where West asked Swift’s permission to use that particular lyric. When Kardashian released the video, Swift took to her Instagram to state that she never gave West permission to call her a b*tch in the song and degrade her. The feud escalated from there, and that’s where Braun comes into play. Swift claims that Scooter took this opportunity to troll her online.

“Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked” the “Me!” singer declared in her Tumblr post.

Was Taylor Swift bullied

While these particular examples are by no means kind, we’re not sure that they constitute the use of the term “bullying”. It seems that Scooter’s clients were more at fault in these situations than Scooter was himself. However, if Scooter did, in fact, acquire Big Machine Records for the sole purposes of gaining Swift’s music, then we truly feel for the singer. Swift has been working for over 13 years on her music, and to see it fall into the hands of someone she has such a negative opinion of it is heartbreaking for the singer.

Big Machine Records

However, the reps at Big Machine Records have a different story to tell. They claim that they personally contacted Swift prior to releasing the news to the public and she never responded. They also maintain that though they knew that she and Scooter had been at odds in the past, Scooter has always been a supporter of her music. In a recent interview with People, they assured the public that Scooter would be an “honest custodian of Taylor and her music.”

While this is certainly not an ideal situation for Swift, we’re happy that she’s now with a label that is more aligned with her artistry. It’s very unfortunate that she doesn’t own any of her past albums, but the silver lining is that Lover will be fully under Swift’s control. Swift summed up post with hopeful parting words. “I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.”
