It was Jasmine Harman’s turn to show a potential buyer around a few properties on A Place In The Sun earlier this week. Sue from Cornwall, had been visiting Madeira for over a decade and has established many friendships with those living on the island. Tired of booking hotels, Sue was looking for her very own property, ideally in the capital city of Funchal. Elaine was assisting Sue on the house hunt and with a budget of £170,000, she wanted a two-bed apartment. But, during one visit to a duplex, Elaine and Sue decided they wanted to leave.
Arriving outside, Jasmine said: “Here is our third property, the property that we’re looking at is a duplex apartment in this building.
“It has two bedrooms, but it has got a third bedroom in the loft, so it’s got quite a lot of space.
“Probably needs a bit of work, because it’s a family home at the moment.
“So how do you like this area?” She asked Sue.
“I love this area, I know it really well, I’ve walked this road a hundred times down into Funchal,” Sue replied. “It’s a perfect area.”
The apartment came with not only a balcony, but also a roof terrace, offering a view out to the sea and there was an outside kitchen too.
“This is an upside down house, sitting room upstairs, kitchen, enclosed balcony,” Jasmine detailed.
“I know it’s probably not to your taste at the moment, but can you see the potential?”
Sue said: “No. It’s not doing it for me, this is the main living room and that is the view!”
Elaine was in “total agreement” and said there was “no outlook”.
The presenter than managed to persuade the ladies to the loft area, to see whether the space would sway their opinions.
“Now this is the area called the loft, you’ve got a bedroom there, you’ve got a summer kitchen out here with a nice shade and then the view,” Jasmine revealed.
“This is the best bit so far,” Elaine commented.
“That’s a wonderful view, love that,” Sue added.

“Is this chaining how you feel about this property?” Jasmine questioned and Sue bluntly said: “No.
“We’re still on a no because of downstairs, because of the living area and the kitchen.”
“The space that you’ve got up here the loft area, which at the moment is set up as a child’s bedroom, but what about if you were to make that your sitting room?” Jasmine offered.
“It’s too small. I don’t think there’s anything I could do with this one to turn it into something that I want. Not even my builder friend’s help!” Sue commented.
Construction could be heard in the background which Elaine picked up on and commented: “Out of here.”
“You want to leave?” Jasmine asked and Elaine turned to her friend and said: “Well do you want to see any bedrooms?”
After a moment’s thought, Sue replied: “No.”
Shocked by her commented, Jasmine exclaimed: “Are you serious?”
“I think we’ve seen enough of it,” the buyer responded.
