Adele jokes about losing ‘half her body weight’ on SNL after shedding 7 stone

Adele proved she has a knack for comedy during last night's (October 24) Saturday Night Live performance, as she had the audience – and her co-stars – in creases.

The 32-year-old songstress opened the act with a remark about her weight loss, a subject she has yet to address in public.

Adele made headlines earlier this year when she shared photos from her 32nd birthday, looking dramatically different after losing a rumoured seven stone.

The public's fascination with the images was met by controversy – while some applauded Adele's hard work, others felt it sent out a negative message to put so much focus on someone's weight.

Last night was the first time Adele has openly addressed her transformation, poking fun at the media-storm surrounding the weight loss by joking about "only bringing half" of herself to the SNL set.

In her first stint as an SNL host, she said: "I know I look really, really different since you last saw me.

"But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions and all the travel bans…

"I had to travel a lot and could only bring half of me. And this is the half that I chose."

The mum-of-one, who split from ex-husband Simon Konecki last year, looked radiant on the legendary stage, wearing an off-the-shoulder black gown with button-up detailing.

Her caramel locks were swept to one side, and she paired the look with retro winged eyeliner and chandelier earrings.

Later in the act, she made reference to fans' demands for another album, saying: "I know there's been a lot of chatter about me just being the host.

"I've seen all of it, like ‘why isn't she the musical guest' and stuff like that."

She continued: "And there's a couple of reasons. First, my album isn't finished. And I'm also too scared to do both.

"I'd rather just put on my wig, and this is all mine by the way, have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens"

Wrapping things up, she moved viewers with a rendition of her chart-topper Someone Like You, her iconic vocals echoing through the studio.

Watching from home, SNL viewers hurried to Twitter to praise Adele's debut hosting stint, remarking on the Grammy-winner's radiance as they typed.

One said: "I can't stop thinking at how stunning Adele is."

"Adele is glowing," wrote a second.

And a third penned: "Adele was great on #SNL. It was the funniest episode in a looong time."
