Alex Jones has been on maternity leave from her role as presenter on The One Show after giving birth to her baby daughter back in August. The presenter has made a few cameos on the BBC programme since giving birth, appearing with her newborn to announce her name live on-air and even joining Jermaine Jenas for a one-off edition of The One Show back in September. But on Wednesday, Jermaine and co-host Ronan Keating revealed when Alex would next be back fronting the programme.

The news came after Ronan and Jermaine shared a cheeky back and forth to mark their first-ever joint appearance on the show.

“Hello, and welcome to your Wednesday One Show with Ronan Keating,” Jermaine began as Ronan chimed in: “And Jermaine Jenas.”

Realising it was the first time the former singer and ex-footballer had fronted the show together, Ronan continued: “And Jermaine, this is the first time we’ve done The One Show together.”

“I know, it’s happened finally,” Jermaine replied before Ronan joked: “And that’s usually my seat, that’s my seat.”

Poking fun at his co-star who was sat on the left of the opposite side to normal, where Alex usually resides, Jermaine harped back: “No, it’s my seat, it’s why I’m sat here, it’s my seat.

“Shall we just settle this like grown-ups?” Jermaine teased.

“I’ve got a coin here, whoever gets the right answer, heads or tails, gets to sit in my seat. Ready? Call it.”

Ronan opted for “heads” but Jermaine rather shadily told him the coin landed on tails, prompting a member of The One Show crew to shout from off-camera: “Check it!”

The One Show duo shared a laugh before Jermaine continued: “It’s tails so I get to sit in my seat, we respect our elders here, so you can have Alex’s seat.”

Referring to Alex, Ronan replied: “Well, yeah, this is the boss’s, this is like the Simon Cowell seat, so I’ll take it.”

And with Alex being brought up in conversation, Jermaine told BBC viewers when she would be back.

“Speaking of Alex, by the way,” he began. “She’ll be back tomorrow and she’s going to be launching what The One Show will be doing for this year’s Children in Need appeal.”

Ronan then joked: “Yes, big sis is back, as you know, they wouldn’t give that responsible job to one of us.

“You don’t want to miss it,” Ronan concluded as he teased Alex’s return.
