Amanda Holden blasts Phillip Schofield for costing her This Morning job as behind-the-scenes ITV row escalates – The Sun
AMANDA Holden claims Phillip Schofield cost her a plum presenting role on telly hit This Morning.
The BGT judge, 48, raised concerns to a top ITV boss that he blocked a job as his co-host.
A second star also complained about Phillip’s “overbearing” behaviour.
Fuming Amanda complained to bosses that she missed out on a role co-hosting This Morning because Phillip had branded her “difficult to manage”.
The BGT star, 48, took the issue to ITV chief Kevin Lygo.
A former daytime TV executive said: “Phillip actively campaigned for Rochelle Humes to get the job despite Amanda being more experienced — and having been told privately she’d got the gig.
“She feels Phil unfairly used his powers of persuasion. She was told he’d chosen Rochelle because she was easier to ‘manage’ on air – and understandably that incensed her.”
Amanda raised concerns at a meeting with Kevin in September.
This April another female star went to bosses over Phillip’s “unreasonable actions” following an on-air clash.
We can reveal Phillip pitched for Ant McPartlin’s job on I’m A Celebrity but was overlooked.
The former executive told The Sun on Sunday: “For years, Phillip has been the king of daytime TV, and seen as a bit of a God, utterly untouchable.
“But a few people have had noses put out of joint. Amanda, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, plus other key talent, have been especially vocal.
“Things are increasingly toxic when the cameras stop rolling, and a few ITV people are secretly delighted that things are starting to emerge.”
This month Amanda was asked on her Heart FM show what three things she wouldn’t like to find in her home. She replied: “Spiders, flies and Phillip Schofield.”
Meanwhile, Holly Willoughby and Phil’s friendship was tested after a Sunday Times interview featured the pair on the front cover airbrushing a crown onto Holly’s head, but leaving Phillip’s bare.
It’s subdeck read: "How Holly Willoughby eclipsed Phillip Schofield and became Britain's hottest TV star". The magazine's team later wrote a letter of apology to the silver fox's management.
Last year, Phil’s This Morning co-host Holly, 38, was chosen for I’m A Celebrity — reportedly after Amanda was told the job was hers.
A source said at the time: “Amanda was so excited. So she was shocked when execs told her they couldn’t follow through with the offer.
"(Producers) let slip the decision had been influenced by Schofield.”
Ironically Phillip also asked to replace Ant, only to discover Holly had been given the role.
An insider said: “Phillip was disappointed so then mooted a This Morning Down Under special. Again it was turned down.”
Four years ago Phillip was told to be nicer to Amanda — filling in for Holly on This Morning — after viewers complained he was belittling her.
Phillip is also understood to have rowed with a Dancing On Ice writer which led to them quitting.
We told recently of tensions between Phillip and Holly. He also had a Twitter spat with former co-host Fern Britton.
ITV said last night: “Presenter line-ups on This Morning change regularly. Final decisions are made by producers, not presenters.
Phillip is a much-loved broadcaster and part of the ITV family. He’s a consummate professional.
“Amanda is also held in high regard as a judge on one of our biggest shows.” Amanda’s spokesman declined to comment.
