BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay savages Angela Rayner after tense Boris Johnson swipe

BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay savaged Angela Rayner during the latest edition of the morning show as she took a swipe at Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

It was revealed on Monday (June 6) night that Mr Johnson survived a vote of no-confidence and now has to press forward after 148 Tory MPs failed to back him.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Angela Rayner hit out at the Prime Minister over Partygate during Tuesday's (June 7) instalment of BBC Breakfast but was shut down by host Jon, who pointed out the investigation into Labour Party’s Beergate was yet to be concluded.

The Labour politician said: "Of course, the cost of living crisis is a significant issue for our country and because the Prime Minister has spent all of this time trying to defend his actions that are indefensible he’s done nothing to deal with the cost of living crisis, the NHS crisis we find with waiting lists, the problems we face in this country at the moment, the chaos in travel.

"The Prime Minister has done nothing to alleviate that because he’s been too busy naval gazing trying to save himself."

Jon pointed out: "The problem you and Keir Starmer have is there are questions over Beergate.

"It’s hard for you to come out and talk about Boris Johnson’s position because at least that has been sorted out for now you’re still under a cloud of investigation."

BBC star Jon brought the latest news regarding Boris John live from outside 10 Downing Street, leaving co-host Sally Nugent alone in the studio.

It comes just days after TV presenter Sally, 50, was replaced on the show by co-star Nina Warhurst.

Sally. who hosts the show Monday to Wednesday, started presenting the programme earlier this year alongside Dan Walker.

Since Dan's departure last month, she has been joined by Jon on the red sofa.

However, she was replaced by co-star Nina on Monday, May 30.

He first joined BBC Breakfast in 2016.
