Coronation Street fans in hysterics as Gail makes cheeky ‘bottoming’ comment

Coronation Street fans were creased with laughter as Gail Rodwell worked out how much time she spent "bottoming".

David Platt’s mum is definitely a busy woman – between looking after her kids and grandkids, cleaning at the factory and helping solve her family’s problems, it seemed to surprise her to find out how much time was left over for her to "bottom".

Gail (Helen Worth) told Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) on Wednesday's episode that she does bottom quite frequently.

"I once worked out how many hours of my life I spent ironing," Gail told Natasha. "Sad, I know, but take that number and double it, and that’s the amount of hours I’ve spent bottoming!"

Natasha couldn’t hold back her bemused laughter, leaving a Gail confused before quickly changing the subject.

But Corrie fans couldn’t cope with the awkward scene, and took to social media to share their own giggles – as the phrase is usually used in reference to same-sex romps.

"Gail Platt, Power Bottom," one wrote alongside a screenshot of Gail looking harried.

Another penned: "Gail, love, if I’m honest I don’t really want to know how many hours of your life you’ve spent ‘bottoming’…"

"The last thing I expected from Corrie tonight was to hear Gail Platt talk about how many hours she has spent bottoming," someone else typed.

And it wasn’t the first time Gail had made the cheeky slip-up – she first raised the subject with Gloria Price (Sue Johnson) back in 2012.

"Bottoming?" she wondered after Gloria raised the term. Not wanting to seem naïve in front of Gloria, she insisted: "I bottom! I bottom every morning!"

Thankfully, we’re pretty certain Gail wasn’t referring to her bedroom antics – she was actually talking about cleaning the house "from top to bottom".

Oh well, Gail, you’ll get there one day!

And it’s not the first time Gail has slipped into racy territory, as back in February she was embroiled in a search for her mysterious relative Fanny.

Viewers couldn’t contain themselves as mother Audrey asked her daughter: "Any more to say about the mysterious Fanny?"

Gail was wholly unaffected as she replied: "Didn’t I tell you? There was a postcard in that box, and it mentioned that Fanny accompanied – get this – Mr Churchill.

"Churchill did a campaign for a by-election in Oldham at the turn of the century, and I’m pretty sure that great great granny Fanny had links to Oldham."

One social media user joked: "I'd like to know more about Gail's mysterious fanny!"
