Lifelong Coronation Street fan Amy Robbins burst into tears when she heard she had landed the role of Daisy Midgeley's long lost mother Christina, who is set to cause havoc in Weatherfield.

Amy's character is set to make her cobbles debut as she tries to make amends with her estranged daughter, whom she abandoned years ago.

But this isn’t the 51-year-old Liverpudlian’s first soap role.

Avid soap fan will recognise the actress from several of major soaps and may be surprised to learn that talent runs in her family – counting some seriously famous faces as her family members.

As fans welcome Christina to Corrie, Daily Star has taken a look at her real life away from the cameras

    Famous Family

She might be set to light up our screens on one of the UK’s biggest soaps, but talent clearly runs in the family as actress Amy is related to some very famous faces.

Her eldest sister Kate Robbins, 64, has starred in high-profile TV projects including Spitting Image, After Life and rival soap EastEnders.

Another sister Jane was a member of the UK's 1980 Eurovision entry, Prima Donna.

But perhaps her most famous relative is The Beatles legend, Sir Paul McCartney, who is also her cousin once removed.

Sir Paul is her mum’s cousin and Amy says he has always been very supportive of her family, saying: "He's everything you would hope him to be, genuinely lovely."

Speaking of her family support ahead of her new role, Amy gushed:

"My family are all really pleased for me.

"They know how much this Coronation Street role means to me. We are never competitive with each other and we are all very close. My dad, Michael, worked in variety all his life and my mum, Elizabeth, sang.

"Showbusiness is in our DNA, it’s a family business that has lasted generations."

    Emily Atack Link

Amy may be related to music royalty but the star also has a very close link to TV star and comic Emily Atack.

Emily’s mum Kate Robbins was on EastEnders only last year – and now Emily’s auntie, Amy, has landed a role on a major soap.

Amy is the younger sister of Emily’s mum, Kate Robbins.

Kate appeared in Albert Square in August last year, playing the role of music agent Jen Glover, who took a shine to Billy Mitchell.

Kate and Amy’s brother, comedian Ted Robbins, starred in another ITV favourite, Benidorm, having previously appeared on Channel 4 sitcom Phoenix Nights alongside Peter Kay.

In an interview, Amy touched on how genuinely pleased she is for her niece Emily on her success in the industry.

She told The Mirror: “What you see is what you get and she deserves to be the star she is.”

Amy has often shared messages of support on her social media profiles, including when she went shopping and saw her niece printed across the wall of a high-street shop as part of a brand campaign the actress was doing.

    Rival soap roles

Being on Corrie won’t be daunting for soap regular Amy.

She has already earned her soap spurs with stints in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks where she starred as Lynette Drinkwell, the mother of Scott Drinkwell.

She’s also been spotted in rival soap Doctors and EastEnders where she appeared as Jane Carter for four episodes back in 1999.

Her resumé features appearances in other big dramas including The Royal, Holby City and Casualty.

Before landing her role as Dr Jill Weatherill in The Royal, Robbins played a recurring character, Police Sergeant Rachel James in the BBC One hospital drama Casualty.

Robbins also appeared in the BAFTA winning TV film My Beautiful Son playing the part of Maureen opposite Julie Walters.

Robbins has even performed for the Queen at Buckingham Palace in A Celebration of Youth in the Arts with RADA, playing the part of Lady Capulet alongside actors Anne Reid and Bryony Hannah.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX
