Corrie star shares Beverley Callard’s nickname ‘Booch’ after I’m A Celeb trial

Coronation Street star Antony Cotton has shared I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Beverley Callard's nickname during an appearance on I'm a Celebrity… The Daily Drop.

He spoke to host Vick Hope all about his friend, admitting he had never expected her to even go on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, let alone do so well in a Bushtucker trial.

Antony, who plays Sean Tully on the ITV soap, said: "I grew up with her daughter Rebecca, so I've known Booch, which is her nickname, since I was about 10."

The soap star didn't explain where the nickname of Booch came from, but it's clear he and Beverley are close – which is no surprise considering they appeared on Corrie together for more than 15 years.

He went on: "Leading up to her going in, I didn't believe she was actually going to go in, let alone do a trial.

"She's been brilliant, she's a trooper, she's got stuck in and last night's eating trial was a brilliant example of how resilient she is."

Antony said: "Last night was an extraordinary trial and to do 10 stars and eat that muck was amazing."

The actor appeared on I'm A Celeb in 2011, but didn't have to do any eating trials, and he said: "I was really fortunate."

He added: "I've been texting Rebecca throughout and we're very, very proud of her but especially Rebecca's so proud of her."

Antony reckons Beverley will make it to the final, with Jordan North and Vernon Kay joining her after Tuesday night's eating trial.

"Beverley is a queen in her own right," he told Vick. "They've all got a shot but I think the northern contingency have a really good shot this year.

"I wouldn't be surprised if that eating trial last night is representative of the final night in camp."

He explained: "The trial last night, she was with Vernon, she was with Jordan, and they're two gentlemen.

"For me, the big surprise has been Jordan, who's perhaps the best campmate ever, and Beverley and Vernon last night really bonded and formed a team.

"There's something about Northern Spirit, when they get together they have a shared mutual understanding of each other."

He added: "You've seen her mother them and want to put her arms around them and they've accepted that and embraced it, and it's been really beautiful.

"I'm really chuffed that she's shined."
