Dwayne Myers (played by Danny John-Jules) was last seen in Saint Marie at the end of season seven as he set off on an around-the-world trip with his long-lost father. The policeman left behind sidekick JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare) who left Death in Paradise in the season 10 finale which aired last week. Danny broke his silence on a possible return to the BBC drama after fans urged him to come back.

Ahead of the penultimate episode of the most recent series, Death in Paradise’s official Twitter page reminded viewers to tune it.

The tweet read: “Did you forget? Nah, course you didn’t – but just in case, this is us reminding you that #DeathInParadise is on tonight! 9pm, @BBCOne. We’ll be here. Don’t leave us hanging!”

One fan commented: “Can’t wait! But please bring Dwayne back! @DannyJohnJules.”

The actor replied to the fan with a gif that included the words, “Leave me out of this.”

The same fan responded with a gif of Guardians of the Galaxy character Groot with the words “Come back!”

Danny replied again but this time with a gif of the infamous flying bike scene from E.T.

Another fan of the actor joined in and tweeted: “Yes please come back.”

The former Death in Paradise star then turned to music to interact with his fans and replied with a link to Player’s Baby Come Back.

The first fan to call for Danny’s return cheekily added: “Sorry Danny, seems I started something.”

While Danny concluded the exchange by posting a link to Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Startin’ Something.

The penultimate episode of season 10 finished with Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) offering JP a promotion which would mean he’d have to leave the island.

He initially turned the Commissioner down but in the season finale realised the position was an amazing opportunity for his family.

JP is leaving behind Saint Marie’s newest recruit Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) whose heart is in the right place but this doesn’t stop him from getting into trouble.

Dwayne taught JP everything he knew and fans think he could be the sergeant’s perfect replacement.

One tweeted: “If JP is leaving can we have Dwayne back please?? #DeathInParadise.”

Someone else added: “Wait what? Damn!! The produces are going to need to pull off something special here to fill the void left by JP. We need a return of Dwayne. Oh and maybe a new Sgt transferred from England to fill JP’s role. Is Claudia Jessie available?”

“JP has been one of the best characters, Hope he comes back one day. Dwayne returning would be amazing @deathinparadise,” a third remarked.

“Fantastic episode tonight #DeathInParadise but if JP leaves will it mean a return for Dwayne? @DannyJohnJules,” someone else asked.

Season 10 saw the return of familiar faces such as Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) and Camille Bordey (Sara Martins).

Could viewers see Dwayne make a reappearance in Saint Marie when the series returns next year?

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
