The boating reality series Below Deck has retained its loyal following of viewers since it landed on screens in 2013. The Bravo series, which highlights the drama which unfolds between crew members onboard a yacht, is now in its ninth season. While many yachties have returned to the new series which is currently airing on the network, former fan favourite Courtney Skippon recently revealed why she is not interested in rejoining the show.
Courtney seemingly took a break from yachting after the filming of Below Deck season seven wrapped and she’s now living in British Columbia, Canada, with her family.
During her time on the hit series – which included some fierce fights on the boat – Courtney was the third stew on the luxury yacht Valor.
She was part of the interior team and worked alongside Simone Mashile and Kate Chastain, and she even had a bit of a romance with deckhand Brian de Saint Pern throughout the dramatic season.
Fans enjoyed watching her friendship with her chief stew Kate blossom and often took to social media to comment on Courtney’s dry sense of humour.
Halfway through the season, she was promoted to second stew, but when the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world Courtney decided to take a break from yachting.
Courtney skipped season eight and has not returned to season nine, which has left fans wondering if she’ll ever appear on Below Deck again.
However, the star recently appeared on the podcast Dear Reality, You’re Effed to set the record straight.
When asked if she’d ever return to the Bravo series by podcast host Hannah Ferrier, the reality star replied: “No, I think it’s embarrassing.
“I would have gone back right away. If Kate went back and they wanted me back as like a second stew again, I definitely would have done that right away.
“Because I feel like that’s a more natural progression.”
She continued: “But if you’re just like waiting around. You do sort of to an extent have to be just like readily available for that.
“And that’s not cute for me. That’s like a guy that ghosted you. And then six months he’s like, ‘You up?’ And you are like, ‘I’m up.’” She added, “Yeah, no”.
Courtney also admitted she couldn’t remember the filming process for season seven which was filmed in Thailand in 2019.
“Because you are so tired,” she said. “I don’t think people recognise like how on another planet you feel the entire time.”
Reflecting on her experience, she said: “I think it’s toxic to pretend you do want to be there all the time.
“Because it’s exhausting. I was like this will be fun. It’s not like I’m taking my yachting career very seriously.
“I worked on one other yacht for like three months. And then accidentally got drunk and applied for a reality TV show. So it’s not being passionate.”
Since leaving the show Courtney has been using her notoriety to team up with brands such as LXR which is a company that offers pre-loved luxury handbags.
The Bravo series opened up financial doors to Courtney and she has also remained in contact with Kate from the show who often comments on her social media posts.
Below Deck season nine continues Monday on Bravo.
