Emmerdale airs emotional scenes for Lisa and Zak Dingle tonight

It’s an emotional day for Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox) and her soulmate Zak (Steve Halliwell) in Emmerdale as they prepare to happily get married again – all while knowing that their future is going to be cut short because she is going to die.

Terminally ill Lisa was delighted when Zak proposed to her and the Dingles all gather for what is going to be a bittersweet day. However, there are problems immediately when the pigs are set loose and Lisa has to round them back into their muddy sty while wearing her white wedding dress.

When she eventually arrives at the church, it breaks the tension and everyone laughs but as Zak and Lisa then go on to exchange vows, can they hold it together as they share their feelings?

There is joy and sadness among the guests as the pair are united in marriage once more. And knowing what’s ahead, fans at home will no doubt be filling up as they start to imagine what the Dingle household is going to be like without Lisa.

Can the pair embrace the joy of the day or will the tragedy of the inevitable overshadow their happiness?

Speaking about her decision to leave recently Jane told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’ve been part of her for 23 years, so it’s a long time but I’m 66 now, and I felt – I’m very young – but I wanted to not be working at this pace so much in the future, and I’ve got lots of other things that I want to do, not necessarily acting but there’s lots of things that I’m interested in, and if I didn’t do it now, I probably wouldn’t.

‘The world is out there to be explored and I’m very happy to be living a simpler life and have times for friends. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been my dream job!’

Emmerdale airs the episodes on Thursday 23rd May at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
