Emmerdale picked up from last night’s scenes, with Amelia Spencer (played by Daisy Campbell) in the hospital with a broken arm. Her father, Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) was sitting beside her trying to come to terms with how dire their lives have got. But, those watching at home have worked out how the pair can get back on their feet and be happy once more.
After hearing about their accident, Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) visited the father and daughter duo in hospital.
He asked a few probing questions and while Amelia initially lied about what happened, Dan felt he needed to come clean.
“It’s not about the cooking Marlon, it’s about how we got here in the first place,” the mechanic began.
“I can’t carry on like this, you know we can’t,” Dan said to Amelia. “We have to stop lying.
“Look at you, you’re in a hospital bed, forced to sell stolen gear. I’ve been trying to get Amelia to do my job for me, it’s got to stop.
“It started after my accident, we burnt through Brenda’s money as soon as we got it.
“We’ve not been able to afford the basics, let alone help for months. Amelia’s been doing everything; the cooking, cleaning, taking care of me and not eating apparently. It ended today with her getting hurt, with me telling her how to fix a car because I wasn’t physically ready to go back to work,” he continued.
“I can’t believe you’ve never said anything about this,” Marlon remarked.
“I’m saying it now, it’s time we dealt with this, Dan said. “I don’t know what to say to you but we’ve got to be practical.
“We’ve been talking about social services and that, maybe we need to think about what’s best for you, what’s best for both of us.
“I’m just trying to be honest, I treat you like an adult. Maybe, they think you’re better off elsewhere, in care or something.”
“It was bad enough you saying you would send me to live with Daz, and now this. Dad you can’t!” Amelia begged.

“I don’t want to, but look where we are,” Dan pointed out.
“It was an accident, accidents happen all the time Dad. I’m alright. Look I lost mum, I can’t lose you too,” the teenager continued.
But those watching at home knew how to solve their situation.
Taking to Twitter, one said: “#emmerdale Dan never heard of the benefits system? I know it’s not great, but in reality he’d be entitled to everything that’s going.”
“‘We can’t let Social Services find out cos if they do they’ll take me away’ NOT necessarily Amelia. What about Daz? #Emmerdale,” another pointed out.
Someone else commented: “My heart just breaks for Amelia & Dan, why aren’t they getting bloody help?? #Emmerdale @emmerdale.”
“Even if he didn’t get esa he still would have got universal credit stupid storyline. #emmerdale,” a fan wrote.
Will the authorities get involved? And could this spark the return of Kerry Wyatt (Laura Neelan) and Daz?
