Lydia (Karen Blick) has had a turbulent few weeks in Emmerdale following the breakdown of her marriage and her family turned on her because she reported Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) to the police for murdering Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon). Ever since leaving her husband, Sam Dingle (James Hooton), she has been trying to distract herself by getting involved in other people’s relationships. None more so than Kim Tate’s (Claire King) as she continues to build a romance with Will (Dean Andrews) but as Lydia begins to track his every movement, she could discover how his daughter Dawn (Olivia Bromley) killed someone on the ITV soap.
For a few days, Lydia has been keeping her eye on Will and Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) as she believes they have been carrying on behind Kim’s back.
The ruthless businesswoman doesn’t believe there has been any romantic connection between the two, not realising how wrong she is.
Bernice confessed her feelings to Will earlier this week and although he admitted there was a spark, his loyalties lay with the owner of Home Farm.
Although the two have now parted ways, Dawn’s father preparing for a lovely Christmas with his lover and is unaware Lydia has started to follow him.
After chasing him around the village for a few hours in the latest episode of the village-based drama, Lydia shared her thoughts on Kim’s partner to the businesswoman.
The cleaner said of her experience in the shop with Will: “He was buying something but I couldn’t tell what [it was].
“Basically, the bottom line is, he was buying your Christmas present and even wanted to wrap it himself to show it was even more from the heart.
“Honestly, I don’t think you need to fret about Will. I think he’s properly taken with you, honestly,” Lydia told Kim.
She might have agreed not to follow the pair anymore but wanting to distract herself from her own problems, she could keep a closer eye on Will.
However, she listens to his every conversation and follows his every move, she could discover a murderous secret he and Dawn have been hiding.
Don’t think you need to fret
Last year, Dawn murdered DI Malone (Mark Womack) after his reign of terror saw him put her family in grave danger.
Will became complicit in the whole situation as he managed to bury the corpse on the grounds of Home Farm so no one would notice the detective was missing.
Not long ago, Kim discovered this secret and because she has fallen for Dawn’s father, she agreed to keep it for him.
However, this would be the first time Lydia has heard of this and when she overhears a conversation between Will and Dawn, she could put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Her recent reputation has shown she is willing to report people to the police to get justice so she could shop Dawn for the murder of Malone.
Thinking Kim could be in danger, as Will could go to any lengths to keep his dark secrets, Lydia could feel it is her responsibility to report the crime.
Not wanting any backlash on the owner of Home Farm, Lydia could make sure both the Taylors are put behind bars for the murder.
She could lead the police right to the crime scene and with no evidence to suggest who killed him, an investigation would be the best port of call to get answers.
Lydia would tell the authorities everything she overheard but with no recording, they would need the Taylors to confess.
Having carried this secret for so long, Dawn could finally admit she did kill Malone and wants to be punished for what she did.
Will this see Lydia adopt a new role in the village as she becomes a sleuth, trying to uncover all the other crimes going on in the village?
Or will she find she has become too close to people’s experiences involving death and realise she should keep busy with her own problems?
As a result of making the discovery, the cleaner could decide now is the time to work on her mirage and see if she can save it.
Although Will might be angry with her for reporting him and his daughter to the police, knowing Dawn if relieved could make him a bit softer.
Will he eventually thank Lydia for being so nosey and for allowing the Taylors to unburden themselves from the pain they’ve been carrying?
Speaking about the aftermath of Malone’s murder last year, the actress who plays Dawn, Olivia, said: “Dawn is really going to struggle with the guilt.
“And the secret that’s going to eat away at her, so I think we’re probably going to see Dawn start to spiral a little bit out of control.
“And it’s so difficult because she’s only just got her life back on track,” the soap star told ITV’s Lorraine.
Dawn will see herself reunited with her former lover Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) over the Christmas period as she thinks she has a bright future ahead of her.
However, will Lydia derail this and will she be able to cope with life behind bars?
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing on Thursdays at 8pm.
