On Friday’s Good Morning Britain, ITV hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard were back to bring viewers the latest news headlines. During the programme, the duo spoke with a number of experts and guests about whether England should be put into lockdown this Christmas or whether people should be able to go ahead with their festive plans.
However, guest Benjamin Butterworth sparked division from viewers after he explained he had put himself into a lockdown due to the rapid spread of the new variant of COVID-19.
He went on to add that restaurants and pubs should also be closed.
Angry viewers took to social media following the segment, with many opposing the idea of going back into a national lockdown.
Kev tweeted: “So Butterworth is having a self-imposed lockdown to save his Christmas, nothing to do with his or his close contacts health? So, what’s the point? #gmb.” (sic)
“Ffs snowflake #gmb,” Carl raged as Dolly wrote: “I can only say this…FFS!!”
Lorraine disagreed: “Lockdown can do one.”
While Scotty added: “Anyone who cancels their Christmas plans and seeing FAMILY, then you’re an IDIOT #GMB.” (sic)
Although, not everyone disagreed with Benjamin as CC penned: “Agree with him.
“I know so many people who have covid at the moment and don’t know anyone who isn’t cutting back socialising before Christmas.”
