GMB’s Kate Garraway releasing book about Derek’s devastating health battle

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway is writing a book, focusing on mindfulness in the wake of her husband's heartbreaking health battle.

Derek Draper was admitted to hospital with coronavirus in March and has been hospitalised since, as the virus left lasting damage on his internal organs.

Ahead of a segment on the benefits of self-help books on today's GMB, Kate revealed she was writing her own autobiography.

Titled Good Morning Life: How to Wake Up and Smile, the release date for the self-help guide has yet to be announced.

The 53-year-old explained she had put pen to paper before her husband fell ill, securing a publishing deal for a book about "well-being".

However, following Derek's health battle, Kate decided to change the perspective of the book, instead focusing on her coping mechanisms as he continues to fight for his life.

Speaking to her co-host Alex Beresford, Kate said: "I am going to declare that just before Derek got sick I started writing a book, I got a publishing deal, based on well-being and all the things I've learned."

Kate added that she is "still going to write it" but will include the challenging experiences of recent months in the autobiography.

"It was going to be called Good Morning Life: How To Wake Up Every Day And Smile, it's still going ahead.

"I'm still writing it, but I'm going to include obviously different insight that has happened to me along the way."

She added: "I find that there are books that are very helpful."

This will be Kate's second book – her first, The Joy of Big Knickers: Or Learning to Love the Rest of Your Life, was released in 2017.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
