I was abandoned outside a block of flats as a newborn baby – a policewoman saved my life but all I want is answers

A WOMAN who was abandoned on the steps of a tower block is desperate to find her biological parents on Wednesday night's Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace.

Niki Weedon, 34, was left on the steps in west London as a baby and knows almost nothing about the circumstances of her birth.

In tonight's episode, Niki meets up with the policewoman who was on duty on the morning she was found her and whom she was named after.

In a preview clip, the women come face-to-face after several years.

Niki was named after police officer Nikki Babington and the two previously made contact three years ago but never retraced their first steps together.

Nikki recalled the moment she first discovered a baby had been abandoned on the steps: "I remember coming upstairs holding something and then just handing it to me and within you know milliseconds.

"So baby, right? There's a baby, was not expecting this when I came on duty today."

She explained that it was her duty of care to take the little baby to the hospital.

Niki asked if the woman who found her was her birth mother.

However, the police officer explained that she lady was not involved in her birth in any way and was ruled out.

She went onto explain that she Niki was found in the estate opposite the steps, just in view of the police station.

"I've always thought over the years that you were absolutely meant to be found sweetie, you really were," Nikki told her.

An emotional Niki broke down in tears as she listened to the comforting words.

The pair shared a touching moment as they retraced the location where Niki was left.

The block of flats had since been demolished but Niki was overwhelmed when she saw the police station opposite.

"Where the glass door is now, that was the main entrance," Nikki said.

Viewers can watch Niki search to discover the truth about why she was left and where she came from in tonight's episode.

It comes after Paul Garner was found in a paper bag and worn out clothes in a loo in Abergavenny, Wales over sixty years ago and was swiftly adopted.

A few years ago he was shocked to learn he was in fact a “foundling” as he saw an article about himself in his adoption files.

With the help of the Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace team, Paul manages to get to the bottom of his origins but is not expecting what Davina McCall tells him.

They discover he had four siblings – two older than him and two younger, one of which has passed away.

He also learns that his parents are both dead, meaning it will be impossible to ever truly know what happened.

Long Lost Family Born Without Trace concludes tonight at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
