I’m A Celeb hit by Ofcom complaints over ‘vomit and animal welfare’

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has received a number of Ofcom complaints regarding Sunday night's launch episode, as scenes of puking struck a bum note with some viewers.

Certain viewers picked up their phones to complain about the vomiting that featured on the episode, while others accused the reality series of animal cruelty.

According to Ofcom, 79 people contacted the regulator over the series debut, with 39 of the complaints regarding the scenes of vomiting.

The episode saw BBC Radio 1 presenter Jordan North vomit into the grass as his nerves got the better of him before he abseiled down a rocky cliff face.

After taking in the staggering height of the cliff, he suddenly turned around and puked up his breakfast – which he previously revealed had been a bagel.

A statement from Ofcom read: "Ofcom has received a total of 79 complaints for last night’s I’m a Celebrity….Get Me Out of Here! of which 37 related to scenes of Jordan vomiting and 18 related to non-specific animal welfare."

Certain viewers made complaints about the treatment of animals in the episode, which saw the contestants dine out on rabbit after spending 12 minutes trapped in plastic box full of bugs.

Later in the episode, the 10 contestants were required to participate in a "Gates of Hell" challenge, locked inside perspex jail cells.

As they passed plastic stars from cell to cell, bucket-loads of maggots and creepy crawlies fell on their heads.

Watching from home, certain viewers found the graphic vomiting distressing to watch, while others feared the welfare of the insects had been compromised for the sake of entertainment.

Daily Star Online has contacted ITV for comment.

Jordan's mum previously revealed the radio star, 30, was prone to vomiting, opening up about his gag reflex as she chatted on Jordan's podcast, Help I Sexted My Boss.

"He has got a very strong 'gip factor,'" Wendy admitted, speaking to Jordan's his co-host William Hanson.

"Anything with a strong smell and he'll start 'gipping'. Just like me!"

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
