BBC viewers tuned into Strictly in their millions last weekend as the 12 couples took to the dance floor for the first time. The stars had varying degrees of success on the night and it was HRVY and Janette who found themselves straight to the top of the leaderboard, with the pair now becoming favourites to take the coveted Glitterball Trophy. And speaking on Morning Live today, Alijaz was grilled on his wife not yet winning the show, seeming confident that she “she will” – could this be her year?

Janette and HRVY were the standout couple last weekend after being awarded 25 points for their sensational Jive.

And judge Motsi Mabuse later admitted she nearly gave the couple a perfect score after being wowed by the routine.

Now, someone has backed the pair for the title already as the competition enters into its second week.

Janette’s husband Alijaz Skorjanec – who is also a professional on Strictly – seems confident his she could win the programme.

Speaking on Morning Live to Gethin Jones and Kym Marsh, the dance star was on to chat about his time living with psoriasis.

Alijaz admitted it always tended to get worse when he was on Strictly believing it was due to the “stress on the body.”

“We put in long hours so the body is under a lot of stress, it does get worse when Strictly is bad,” he explained.

But Gethin couldn’t resist chatting about his stint this year after noting how successful he had been on the show in the past.

Gethin has appeared as a contestant on Strictly himself and works as It Takes Two’s roving reporter.

And the host noted to Alijaz: “You’ve been very successful on Strictly, you’ve won it with Abbey Clancy – the wife hasn’t [won] yet?”

Alijaz replied: “Oh she will, she will, she will!”

“She might this year,” added Gethin. “Janette and HRVY, what do you reckon? Does she have a chance this year?”

And Alijaz put his backing behind her, responding: “Yeah! I think you know, again, I’m so happy we get to do it this year, Gethin!

“It’s been a long year, we’ve been so supportive of each other, we always do strictly 50/50, there’s no rivalry,” he insisted.

Despite the hosts teasing him on the prospect of a “rivalry”, he said: “We support each other 100 percent, I mean it! I love my Mrs.”

This year, Alijaz is performing with Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo, with the pairing also proving a huge hit with viewers.

But could this year be the year Janette finally gets to lift the Glitterball Trophy with her partner?

Elsewhere, Alijaz had divulged the time he’d had a particularly difficult time with his psoriasis, telling the hosts: “When I was dancing with Daisy Lowe, I don’t know if it was stress, Janette and I started touring…

“Strictly, it’s not stressful in a bad way but solely because of the rehearsals, you’re choreographing every week,” he explained.

Detailing the changes he made, he said: “I had to wear turtle necks, short sleeves, I never wear shorts anyway – but thank goodness we don’t normally do it in shorts!”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:15pm and Morning Live airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
