TV chef John Whaite and his professional dance partner Johannes Radebe found themselves in Strictly Come Dancing’s dreaded dance-off at the weekend. However, they managed to impress the judges and keep their place in the competition, securing a spot in the upcoming final. They’ll be competing against fellow finalists AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington, and Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice. However, John has recently opened up about how he’s feeling ahead of the final, admitting he’s been left “exhausted” by dance rehearsals.
John and Johannes appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two.
The couple chatted with host Rylan Clark-Neal about their time in the BBC dance contest.
“You’re finalists, can you believe it?” the presenter questioned, with John replying: “No!”
When Rylan asked John how he was feeling, the star remarked: “I’m feeling on top of the world.”
However, the chef confessed he was beginning to feel the effects of all his hard work, saying he felt “exhausted”.
He explained: “My body’s falling apart, my emotions are all over the place, but I am so happy.
“It’s just been, I’ve said it before, a fast train journey through beautiful scenery and it goes so quick you can’t take it in.
“Whereas, this week it feels like we’re just at the top of the mountain now looking around and we’re having a great laugh,” John said.
Rylan was keen to know how the dance duo felt about being in the bottom two at the weekend.
He asked: “What was going through your mind? Were you like ‘We need to get through to this final?’”
“I was really calm, wasn’t I?” John revealed.
“He was too calm,” Johannes exclaimed. “I was finished. I was a mess!”
John teased his dance partner: “He was a hot mess, he was a hot mess.
“I was like ‘Johannes it doesn’t matter. We’ve got here. It doesn’t matter. What will be will be.’”
Rylan pointed out they would have some added pressure this week as they have to perform three routines.
John revealed they’d be bringing back their favourite dance, their Pirates of the Caribbean themed Paso Doble.
“I just can’t wait to do it!” John enthused. “This was amazing this dance.
“We’ve been running it today and working on technique. It’s just such a cracker,” he added.
“I cannot wait to see what you bring to the final on Saturday night, we’re all behind you absolutely 100 percent,” Rylan said.
The Strictly Come Dancing Final 2021 airs Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
