Kate Garraway announces GMB break after opening up on fears for husband Derek

Kate Garraway has announced she's taking a break from Good Morning Britain to spend time with her family.

The 53-year-old television presenter revealed the news at the end of Friday's episode of the ITV, and she thanked viewers for their ongoing support as her husband Derek Draper continues to recover from coronavirus in hospital.

She told GMB she was taking some time off to help her son Billy as he starts secondary school soon.

Kate explained: "I'm not actually here next week, I'm taking a break to help Billy prepare for starting secondary school."

The presenter also mentioned she would spend time with her beloved husband Derek, and she thanked viewers for being so amazing when she "came back in such challenging times."

Kate opened up about the long-term damage coronavirus has wreaked on her husband, Derek, on yesterday's GMB.

The star was talking alongside co-host Alex Beresford and Dr Hilary Jones as they discussed "long COVID", the name for long-term symptoms that follow a coronavirus battle, including neurological damage and fatigue.

The hosts had spoken to Dynasty actress Emma Samms, who still suffers from breathlessness and fatigue after contracting the virus back in March.

"That is something you and I have spoken about with Derek," Kate told Hilary.

"Once the virus has gone, it's the long-term damage."

Kate also said that she is writing a self-help book called Good Morning Life: How To Wake Up Every Day And Smile.
