Laverne & Shirley star David Lander dies aged 73

Laverne & Shirley actor David Lander has died at the age of 73, it has been reported.

According to TMZ, the veteran actor, who was most famous for his role as Andrew ‘Squiggy’ Squiggman in the classic 70s TV series, died on Friday night at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

It is understood that Lander’s death came after a 37-year battle with multiple sclerosis – a lifelong condition that affects both the brain and nerves.

David’s wife, actress Kathy Fields, told TMZ that both she and their daughter Natalie were by his side when he died.

Tributes have poured in online for Lander, with many fans recalling their fond memories of the much-loved actor.

One fan tweeted: ‘Seventies sketch comedy shaped me. The Credibility Gap was part of that. RIP David Lander.’

While another commented: ‘RIP David Lander (Squiggy, Laverne & Shirley). Thank you for the funny. It was a great show.’

One added: ‘RIP David Lander. Laverne and Shirley was a favourite when I was very young. It was less accessible than Happy Days, but I used to watch it religiously anyway hoping for Lenny and Squiggy appearances.’
