Love Island’s Liam Llewellyn admits he’s ‘only ever had two dates’

New Love Island recruit Liam Llewellyn has admitted he’s only ever been on two dates in his life.

The 22 year old was announced as one of the first contestants of series 8 on Monday 30 May alongside Paige Thorpe, Dami Hope, Indiyah Polack and football legend Michael Owen's daughter, Gemma.

The masters student, hailing from Newport in South Wales, has opened up about the fact he "doesn’t really date".

Speaking ahead of his villa entrance next week, he admitted: “I’ve only had one or two dates! I don’t really date, I just go out and meet girls.

“I’m not messaging girls like, ‘I want to take you out, I want to do this, I want to do that.’ I meet girls naturally. If I want to see them again, I just go and see them.”

Despite his lack of dating experience and only being 22, Liam is entering the famous Love Island villa just six months after the end of a three year relationship.

“I had a long term relationship for three years which came to an end in November, since then I’ve been enjoying myself, having a little dabble here and there!” he said.

“I’ve been happy on my own so I’m not going into the Villa because I need to, I’m going in there because I want to.

“I think 22 is a really nice age to meet someone, you’ve got your years ahead of you so you have time to experience stuff and grow together,” he continued.

“I think Love Island is a great opportunity to meet someone, you’re in with a load of different types, so you can get to grips with what you really like about people.”

And when asked what kind of Islander he’ll be, Liam is all about being positive.

“I’ll bring good energy, I’m good company to be around and I’m smiley,” he said.

“Before, I've been in places I don’t want to be but I can still put a nice smile on and make it as enjoyable as it can be. So I’ll definitely bring some positive energy.

“I’m quite caring, if you’re part of my circle of friends and family, I’ll do anything for you.”

When it comes to cracking on and treading on other people’s toes, Liam says he’s competitive – but also knows when to back off.

He explained: “[I’m] so competitive – but I try to think about other people's feelings at the same time! If I can see two people who are absolutely made for each other, I’m not going to try and ruin it for them.

“I don’t want to create any bad tension between a couple but if I can see someone uncertain or unhappy, or not really sure what they want and I think I’m better suited to that person, then yeah, happily, no problem at all!”

And he’s not afraid to show his emotions as he said: “I wear my heart on my sleeve, I can’t hide how I feel about anyone. I’m probably quite emotional as well come to think about it.”

It’s been 10 months since Liam Reardon and Millie Court were crowned the latest winners of Love Island.

Laura Whitmore is set to return in a reported £500,000 deal alongside husband Iain Stirling, who will narrate the show.
