The upcoming six-part Amazon Prime Video series The Rig has recently wrapped up filming in Edinburgh, with the first new images for the show coming soon after to tease expectant fans.

Line of Duty star Martin Compston is set to star in the thriller set to follow the crew of the Kishorn Bravo oil rig just off of Scotland as tremors suddenly cut off all communication to the mainland.

A statement from the show’s creators says: “As the crew endeavour to discover what’s driving this unknown force, a major accident forces them to ask questions about who they can really trust,”

In the statement they also added that the crew “will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance, into a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination.”

As fans of Martin eagerly await the arrival of the new series, Martin cheekily jumped on Twitter to let fans know that he’ll be a main stay in the show.

He tweeted: “Can confirm I don’t die in the first ten minutes, after that it’s every boiler suit for themselves”

Martin recently appeared in the series Vigil, with fans of his sadly disappointed as his death proved to be a pivotal introduction of the plot near the beginning of the show.

The Rig was written by first time writer David Macpherson and will be directed by recurring Line of Duty director John Strickland, who also worked as a director on a number of episode in the successful series The Bodyguard.

The series will also feature Line of Duty's Mark Bonnar, Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen, Life star Calvin Demba and Schitt’s Creek actress Emily Hampshire.

The new images feature Compston’s character working on board the oil rig, where Glen will be playing the leader of the crew.

Hampshire is set to play a scientist and oil company rep on board the rig while Compston is starring as a communications officer.

Director of European Amazing Originals for Amazon Prime Video, Georgia Brown, said: “The Rig is a brilliant story, expertly told, in the most dramatic of settings.

"It asks searching questions about nature and the environment, about what it takes to survive and to be human, which feels very pertinent to the world we are living in now.”
