Masked Singer fans convinced Mushroom is X Factor star saying 'she sounds exactly the same'

FANS of The Masked Singer are convinced that Mushroom is an X Factor star after noticing she "sound exactly the same".

Viewers of the ITV competition took to social media to speculate the mystery celebrity could be Sam Bailey, who won the show in 2013.

Mushroom has proven difficult to unmask, thanks to using a variety of accents – including Yorkshire and Irish – to fool the judges week on week.

Now, fans are sure they have worked out who is behind the mask, after recognising what they think is the voice of X Factor star Sam, 44.

Viewers noted that the mystery celebrity sounded "identical" to the singer as she performed Jennifer Rush's The Power Of Love on Saturday night.

"Mushroom sounds like Sam Bailey from the X Factor who sang The Power of Love," one person kicked off the debate on Twitter.

"I think mushroom is Sam Bailey, my favourite contestant hands down," a second said, as a third chimed in: "Mushroom – I heard Sam Bailey this time!"

"Mushroom singing this sounds identical to when Sam Bailey sang it. If it isn't Charlotte Church it's Sam Bailey," a fourth said.

Many fans have been convinced that the character is actually former classical singer Charlotte Church thanks to Mushroom's incredible vocals.

They took to Twitter as soon as Mushroom performed on Saturday night on the hit ITV show.

It came after she hit a super impressive operatic note at the end of a performance in the semi-final on Saturday night, sending fans into a frenzy on Twitter.

A third said: "It's definitely Charlotte Church. She's a trained opera singer so can definitely reach those notes."

Earlier guesses on the person behind Mushroom have included Aisling Bea.

Mushroom's first performance was of the Bjork hit It's Oh So Quiet and viewer has claimed that comedian Aisling 'revealed herself' – after she posted about Bjork on Instagram following the show.

Aisling shared a clip of Bjork accepting the award for Best International Female at the Brit Awards in 1998, adding: "I love this so much."

Writing on a Masked Singer Reddit forum shortly afterwards, one fan said: "Not a certain celebrity referencing the artist of their first performance song on Instagram…"
