Mrs Brown’s Boys is set to return this weekend for a Halloween special of the BBC comedy. To mark 10 years of the hit series being on-air, husband and wife duo Brendan O’Corroll and Jennifer Gibney and the rest of the cast will be returning to screens in a one-off live special. However, in the upcoming Christmas special, bosses will pay a special tribute to crew member Dennis Knotts.

The props master died after contracting coronavirus earlier this month.

In a recent interview, Brendan paid a tribute to his former colleague as he admitted he would be sorely missed.

He went on to say they will dedicate an upcoming Christmas special in memory of Dennis.

“He was the most adorable man and actually, we dedicated the Christmas episode to him, we loved him very much,” the actor explained.

He continued to the Irish Independent: “He’s been on every show that we have done with the BBC and that’s 10 years now. He was the props master on every one of them; he was lovely,’ the Agnes Brown star told the Irish Independent.

“We lost one of the family. There were people who had worked with Dennis for 40 years and they are just devastated; they can’t believe it.”

Brendan’s wife Jenny, who plays Mrs Brown’s daughter in the hit BBC series, went on to add the cast were filming the first of two Christmas episodes when they were told about Dennis’ death.

She said: “We were in the middle of recording that episode when we got word that he had passed.”

Jenny added: “We did the show for Dennis; that’s how we all got through it. We said, ‘let’s do this one for Dennis’. And we did.”

The series will return on Friday for a live Halloween special.

Brendan has been playing the lead role of Agnes Brown since the very beginning while Jennifer has taken on the part of Mrs Brown’s daughter.

The couple recently made an appearance on The One Show to chat about the upcoming episodes.

However, it wasn’t long before Brendan accidentally swore during the chat with Alex Jones and Ronan Keating.

When asked about why Mrs Brown’s Boys and his character is so successful, the actor began: “I think it’s – first of all, she’s hard as nuts.

“I think there are two things; she’d help you bury a body, you know if she had to.

“And the other side of it is. although she can be a B, I, T, C, H sometimes, she just loves her kids.”

“She absolutely adores her kids and adores her grandkids,” the actor said about his character Agnes.

“And I think that’s a redeeming factor for her, she’s full of love.

“And her best friend is her best friend, and will always be her best friend.

“There’s a loyalty there to her. I just – she cuddles me inside.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys returns on Friday, October 29 to BBC One.
